A life for a life - Adam Resurrected (alternative title: A life for a life - Adam Hundesohn , original title: Adam Resurrected ) is an American - German - Israeli film drama by Paul Schrader . The film is based on Yoram Kaniuk's novel Adam Hundesohn , which was released in Israel in 1968.

action

The film tells the story of Adam Stein, the patient of a psychiatric clinic for Holocaust survivors in Israel in 1961. The former vaudeville artist Stein was the only member of his family to survive persecution and concentration camps because he agreed to the amusement of the concentration camp commandant to slip into the role of a dog. When a neglected boy who thinks he is a dog is admitted to the clinic, Stein is able to overcome his own trauma during the gradual rapprochement between him and the boy.
