A life for a life - Adam Resurrected (alternative title: A life for a life - Adam Hundesohn , original title: Adam Resurrected ) is an American - German - Israeli film drama by Paul Schrader . The film is based on Yoram Kaniuk's novel Adam Hundesohn , which was released in Israel in 1968.
action
The film tells the story of Adam Stein, the patient of a psychiatric clinic for Holocaust survivors in Israel in 1961. The former vaudeville artist Stein was the only member of his family to survive persecution and concentration camps because he agreed to the amusement of the concentration camp commandant to slip into the role of a dog. When a neglected boy who thinks he is a dog is admitted to the clinic, Stein is able to overcome his own trauma during the gradual rapprochement between him and the boy.
background
The film has been screened at numerous international festivals including the Telluride Film Festival , the Toronto Film Festival , the Haifa Film Festival and the Valladolid International Film Week . In Germany it was released on February 19, 2009.
Reviews
The lexicon of international film described the film as a "virtuoso developed drama", which succeeds in skilfully interlinking the various time levels. The main character's disturbance would become “visually aesthetically visible and palpable”.
