action

Ditte Rheinwald is the daughter of the bakery owner Rikard Rheinwald from Copenhagen . The Rheinwald bakery was once founded by the German great-grandfather and passed on to the oldest son. It is a traditional company and purveyor to the royal court. With Ditte and Chrisser, Rikard has two grown daughters from his first marriage and with Sanne the underage children Line and Vimmer. Rikard has just successfully survived lung cancer and now wants to marry Sanne. Ditte is a gallery owner and now has the opportunity to move to New York with her boyfriend Peter , where she will work as a buyer for the Amber gallery as a specialist in European art. Peter is a painter and finds a studio in the Williamsburg district . A lifelong dream can come true for both of them. When Ditte becomes pregnant, she is faced with the decision of either taking on her dream job or becoming a mother. She decides against the child and has an abortion. When a little later, however, a non-operable brain tumor was diagnosed in her father, Rikard, she canceled the American gallery and wanted to accompany her father to death and take over the bakery. This decision leads her partnership with Peter into a crisis, who cannot understand why an art historian suddenly wants to be a baker. She is also confronted with his accusation that she aborted their child for the job and now wants to give up this job for the father. Ditte is at a loss and also realizes that she is not at all suitable to run a bakery. In the end she cancels her father, but accompanies him to death together with his wife Sanne in the family villa. When the father finally dies, Ditte and Peter get together again.
