Elżbieta Tarnawska

Elżbieta Tarnawska (born April 28, 1948 in Warsaw ) is a Polish pianist and music teacher .

education

Tarnawska studied piano at the St. Petersburg Conservatory in the class of Ludmiła Umanska and at the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw with Regina Smendzianka. She then completed postgraduate studies at the Moscow Conservatory with Wiktor Mierżanow and Irina Rumiancewa-Dabrowski and in Paris with Monique Haas . As a Fulbright - scholarship she deepened her knowledge of New York at Eugene List and Nelita True at the University of Maryland , where she performed her doctoral thesis.

Concert and teaching activities

From 1974 to 1981 she was mainly active as a concert pianist: Tarnawska appeared in numerous Polish concert halls and played with well-known conductors such as Tomasz Bugaj , Jerzy Katlewicz , Jerzy Maksymiuk , Tadeusz Strugała , Antoni Wit and Tadeusz Wojciechowski . Her agency brokered her appearances in almost all European countries, as well as in the United States and Cuba . Tarnawska participated in many national and international festivals around the world, including the Piano Festival in Słupsk , the International Chopin Festival in Duszniki-Zdrój , the Liszt Festival at the Catholic University of America in Washington DC, in Karlovy Vary and Marienbad , the Festival of the winners of international music competitions in Warsaw and Katowice , the Mozartowski Festival at the Academy of Music in Warsaw and the International Chopin Festival in the colors of autumn in Antonin . She has also acted as a juror at piano competitions in Poland, Great Britain, Spain, Ukraine and the USA.

In 1973 Tarnawska taught piano at the Karol Szymanowski State Music School in Warsaw. During her 11 year stay in the United States , she worked as a music teacher at numerous music schools and colleges, including the Peabody Institute in Baltimore . From 1993 she worked as a piano teacher at the Fryderyk Chopin University in Warsaw. From 2005 to 2008 she was Vice Rector for Student Affairs and External Relations and Professor in the piano department at this university. She also taught at the Łódź Music Academy . In October 2012, she was the President of Poland Bronislaw Komorowski to Professor of Musical Arts ( Polish profesor sztuk muzycznych appointed).

In addition to her concert and teaching activities, Tarnawska also wrote articles on various subjects related to the piano, which were published in many magazines in Poland and abroad. In addition, from 1976 to 1978 she was the author and presenter of music programs on Polish television. In 2005 she commented on the achievements of the participants in the International Chopin Competition for TVP Kultura , the cultural television broadcaster of the Polish public television broadcaster Telewizja Polska . She is deputy chairman of the Council for Art Education ( Polish Rada ds. Szkolnictwa Artystycznego ) in the Ministry of Culture and a member of the Expert Committee for Teacher Support ( Polish Komisja Ekspertów ds. Awansów Nauczycieli ).
