Eric Grimes Weems (* 4. July 1985 in Daytona Beach , Florida ) is a former American American football poker players on the position of wide receiver and return specialist . He played for the Chicago Bears , Atlanta Falcons, and Tennessee Titans in the National Football League (NFL).

Early years

Weems went to high school in his native Daytona Beach. He then went to Bethune-Cookman University , a private university in Daytona Beach, Florida. Here he played for the college football team between 2003 and 2007.

NFL

Atlanta Falcons

After Weems was not considered in the 2007 NFL Draft , he signed a contract with the Atlanta Falcons . In his first season he got only one use in the last game of the season against the Carolina Panthers . The following year he scored his first captured pass in the game against the Carolina Panthers on the twelfth day of the season. For the 2009 season , Weems was appointed punt returner after the actual punt returner Harry Douglas injured himself so badly before the season that he was canceled for the season. During the season he was also named a Kick Returner . On Matchday 7 of the season, Weems caught his first career touchdown against the Dallas Cowboys after a 30- yard pass from Matt Ryan . He finished the season with six passes for 50 yards and two touchdowns. After the 2010 season , he was elected to the Pro Bowl . Weems was the only player in the NFL who managed to carry a punt and kick back to a touchdown. In addition, he got 6 pass catches for 61 yards. In the play-offs he carried a 102-yard kick back to a touchdown in the game against the Green Bay Packers . After his contract expired after the season with the Falcons, he signed on July 31, 2011 a contract for another season with the Falcons.

Chicago Bears

On March 14, 2012, Weems signed a three-year contract with the Chicago Bears . He was released by the Bears on August 16, 2014 after failing to score a touchdown in two seasons as either a pass recipient or a returner.

Second stay with the Atlanta Falcons

On August 21, 2014, the Atlanta Falcons signed him again. He set a personal season record in the 2014 season when he caught ten passes for 102 yards. On March 6, 2015, Weems extended his contract with the Falcons for another two years. He played in all 16 games of the season in 2016 and reached the NFL final with the Falcons, the Super Bowl LI , which was lost to the New England Patriots 28:34 .

Tennessee Titans

In March 2017, he signed a contract with the Tennessee Titans . He was released on September 2, re-engaged just a day later after Harry Douglas was placed on the Injured Reserve List .

Outside the field of play

On the night of November 16, 2009, Weems was arrested by DeKalb County , Georgia police after driving a car while under the influence of alcohol.
