Erich Kleineidam

Erich Kleineidam (born January 3, 1905 in Bielschowitz , † April 21, 2005 in Erfurt ) was the founding rector of the Catholic Theological Faculty of the University of Erfurt , philosopher , priest, Regens and author.

Life

Erich Kleineidam studied Catholic theology and philosophy in Breslau , Freiburg im Breisgau and Innsbruck . On January 27, 1929, he was ordained a priest in Breslau by Cardinal Adolf Bertram . It was in 1930 at the Faculty of Wroclaw University Dr. phil. PhD .

After completing his doctorate, he became the head of the student council at the advanced school in Liebenthal, Lower Silesia . From 1934, Kleineidam worked as a tutor in the Archbishop's Theological Convict in Breslau. In 1935 he became deputy director there.

In 1939 Erich Kleineidam was appointed professor of philosophy at the theological college in Weidenau in the Sudetenland. In addition to this professorship, he held the office of Vice Rector until the institution was closed at the end of the war. After his expulsion as a Reich German on October 3, 1946, the first expellee bishop Maximilian Kaller appointed him as a professor at the newly founded Philosophical-Theological University in Königstein im Taunus in 1947 . In 1948 he also became Regens and in 1949 rector of this institution.

In 1952, Kleineidam was appointed rector, full professor for philosophy and rain at the regional seminar in Berlin-Biesdorf, which was being founded.

On May 2, 1952, he had to leave the GDR . The opening of the seminary in Berlin was banned. In July 1952, however, he received an entry permit to Erfurt.

Until 1954 he was the founding rector of the "Philosophical-Theological Study of Erfurt" (today's Catholic-Theological Faculty of the University of Erfurt ) and there until 1970 Professor of Philosophy. He has written numerous publications (national and international). Until 1959 he was also the founding Regens of the Erfurt seminary .

The four-volume work Universitas Studii Erfordensis , published in several editions, is the highlight and conclusion of his scientific publications . Overview of the history of the University of Erfurt , which he worked on updating until 1992.

On the 100th birthday of Kleineidam, the chairman of the German Bishops' Conference , Karl Cardinal Lehmann, praised his scientific achievements and called the Erfurt scholar a "figure of hope", who stands for lifelong fidelity to faith, but also for encouraging many Christians to endure dictatorships of the last century.

Honors

Erich Kleineidam has been honored with many awards from church, science and politics.

In 1954 he became papal house prelate and in 1978 apostolic protonotary . He received honorary doctorates in theology from the Universities of Münster and Munich . In 1990 he became an honorary member of the Academy of Charitable Sciences in Erfurt . In 1992 he was awarded the Great Federal Cross of Merit.
