Ernst Ritter von Mann Edler von Tiechler
Ernst Karl August Klemens Ritter von Mann Edler von Tiechler (born April 11, 1864 in Burghausen / Upper Bavaria , † October 2, 1934 in Bad Reichenhall ) was a German vice admiral .
Life
Ernst was the son of the Bavarian captain Klemens Ritter von Mann Edler von Tiechler (1829–1903) and his wife Auguste, née Rink (1840–1921). He married Kathinka Günter (1878–1955) in 1899.
Mann joined the Imperial Navy on April 21, 1884 and became a second lieutenant in 1887 . He attended the military academy and was subsequently in command of several torpedo boats . Due to illness, he retired from the Navy in the spring of 1905 and then worked for the Germania shipyard in Kiel as a marine technology consultant and deputy director until 1907 . After his re-entry into the Navy, he was promoted to frigate captain in 1908 . He took over command of the small cruiser SMS Hamburg . In December 1908 he became a sea captain and from 1909 to 1911 he was at the head of the torpedo test command. In this function he was initially in command of the great cruiser SMS Friedrich Carl . From September 30, 1911 to January 1913, he was entrusted with the management of the large cruiser SMS Moltke , the flagship of the commander of the reconnaissance ships .
On January 12, 1913, Mann took command of the large liner SMS Kaiser until September 1913. In January 1913, the Kaiser was the flagship of the V Division, consisting of the large liner: Kaiser , SMS Kaiserin , SMS Friedrich der Große , SMS König Albert and SMS Prinzregent Luitpold .
First World War
From 1914 to the end of 1917 he was the torpedo inspector . On September 22, 1915, he was promoted to rear admiral . In December 1917 man became director of the newly established submarine office in the Reichsmarineamt , where he was promoted to vice admiral on January 27, 1918 . In October of the same year he became State Secretary of the Reichsmarineamt.
On November 2, 1918, Mann selected commanders loyal to the Emperor to sink battleships that were manned by mutinous soldiers during the Kiel sailors' uprising . On November 5, 1918, he asked the cabinet in Berlin for permission to attack Kiel from land and sea in order to end the rebellion. Both requests were not granted.
On February 13, 1919, Mann resigned and retired.
Ernst Karl August Klemens Ritter von Mann Edler von Tiechler died on October 2, 1934 in Bad Reichenhall .
