Ernst Ludwig Philipp Freiherr von Rosenberg (born April 14, 1799 in Drossen , † August 21, 1864 in Berlin ) was a Prussian major general and commander of the cadet corps .

Life

origin

His parents were the landowner Karl Ludwig Friedrich von Rosenberg (1761–1843) and his wife Luise Karoline, née von Roenne .

Military career

Rosenberg joined the 8th Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army as a musketeer on June 1, 1816 , advanced to Portepeefähnrich in mid-August 1818 and was transferred to the 24th Infantry Regiment on February 16, 1819 and promoted to Second Lieutenant . From 1822 to 1825 he completed the general war school for further training and was assigned to the topographic office in 1827/28 . In 1829 he was appointed regimental adjutant and on March 30, 1832, he was commanded as adjutant of the 5th division . Left in this position, Rosenberg came to the 5th Infantry Regiment on March 30, 1833 as a Prime Lieutenant . On March 30, 1839 he was promoted to captain with a patent from February 13, 1835 and at the same time transferred to the 12th Infantry Regiment as a company commander . On July 10, 1837 he was also director of the division school and president of the examination commission for portepeef ensigns in the 5th division. Promoted to major on March 22, 1843 , he joined the 27th Infantry Regiment at the same time . From there he was transferred to the 27th Landwehr Regiment on July 24, 1848 as commander of the 1st Battalion. On November 23, 1848, he was put on disposition with a pension and ordered to take over the Coburg-Gotha contingent .

After his return he was appointed director of the Potsdam orphanage on January 15, 1853 and promoted to lieutenant colonel on March 22, 1853 . He was appointed Colonel and Commander of the Cadet Corps on October 30, 1856 . In this position Rosenberg received the character of major general on July 1, 1860 . Awarded the Order of the Red Eagle II. Class with Oak Leaves, he took his leave on June 25, 1861 with the pension of a brigade commander, before he was put on disposal with a pension on December 24, 1861. He died on August 21, 1864 in Berlin and was buried on August 24, 1864 in the cemetery in Hasenheide.

Rosenberg married Henriette von Winterfeldt (1805–1890), a daughter of Captain Friedrich von Winterfeldt (1787–1805) , on April 5, 1827 in the St. Marien Church in Berlin . The couple had several children including:
