The district of Etzenborn is located in the south-eastern part of the municipality of Gleichen

Etzenborn is a district of the municipality of Gleichen in the district of Göttingen in southern Lower Saxony with 217 inhabitants (as of May 4, 2015). It is located in the very south-east of the municipality of Gleichen.

Geographical location

Etzenborn is located about 17 kilometers southeast of Göttingen directly on the former inner-German border and today's Lower Saxony- Thuringia border. The location is in the upper Nathetal on the steeper strata at the transition from the Lower Eichsfeld to the Eichsfeld Basin . Surrounded by a wooded landscape, the village is framed by numerous mountains, such as the Roten Uferberg (approx. 350 m) in the northwest, the Mühlberg (265 m) in the north, the Hunholzberg (up to 310 m) in the east and the foothills of the Gehlenberg ( up to 360 m) in the south.

Neighboring towns are the also belongs to the municipality of same district Beienrode in the West, that to Duderstadt belonging Nesselröden in the northeast and the Eichsfelder places Neuendorf in the east and Glasehausen in the south.

In the course of the municipal reform, Etzenborn became a district of the newly formed municipality Gleichen on January 1, 1973.

Justification of the coat of arms: The coat of arms designed by Otto Rössler von Wildenhain was approved by the Lower Saxony Ministry of the Interior on February 26, 1953. It is talking for the place name (Etzenborn = Etzequelle). The ring symbolizes the Etze spring and the wave bar the stream.
