Ischenrode is the southernmost part of the municipality Gleichen in the district of Göttingen and has 160 inhabitants (as of May 4, 2015). The place is located in the valley of a tributary of the Wendebach on the southeastern edge of the Reinhausen Forest . Neighboring towns are Lichtenhagen in the west, Bremke in the north and Rohrberg in the south.

history

The first written record that has been handed down to us is in a document from 1168 (forgery from the 13th century) in which Heinrich the Lion confirmed various possessions of the Reinhausen monastery , including four Hufen in Diskenroth . Another early mention from the year 1207 can be found in the record book of the Reinhausen monastery. Other earlier forms of the name are Tischenroth (around 1250), Giskenroth (1262), Tyschenrode (1318) and Isekenrode (1338). Ischenrode 's current form was first recorded in writing in 1541. On a map from 1785, 21 fireplaces are indicated for Ischenrode. The Protestants in Ischenrode belong to the Evangelical Lutheran. Parish of St. Matthias in Bremke.

On January 1, 1973, Ischenrode was incorporated into the new municipality of Gleichen.

Justification of the coat of arms: The coat of arms designed by Otto Rössler von Wildenhain was approved by the Lower Saxony Ministry of the Interior on January 13, 1950. It refers to the location of the village, which is surrounded by the forest.
