history

The first mention of Rittmarshausen as Rathmerishusen in a document dated to the period between 1118 and 1137 is a forgery from the 13th or early 15th century. The first reliable mention, on the other hand, occurs with the place name Retmershusen in the year 1318.

In 1839 the local office was incorporated into the Reinhausen office.

In 1933, a voluntary labor service camp was built in the vacant building of an old sugar factory , which was renovated in 1937 and served as a location for a number of student management and student council camps as well as teacher training seminars. There were also camps for university lecturers there. It was the first camp for lecturers throughout the Reich and the fifth at the Reich level. After 1945, it served as accommodation for displaced persons and refugees from the former East German areas.

In the course of the municipality territorial reform , Rittmarshausen became a district of the newly formed municipality Gleichen on January 1, 1973.

Justification of the coat of arms: The coat of arms designed by Otto Rössler von Wildenhain was approved by the Lower Saxony Ministry of the Interior on September 28, 1948. The crenellated beam comes from the coat of arms of the Lords of Uslar and the parakeet that of the Lords of Berlepsch , who had a great influence in the village in the Middle Ages.

religion

Marienkirche

The Marienkirche is equipped with a Heyder organ. Your community belongs to the church district of Göttingen , around the middle of the 19th century it formed a branch church of Kerstlingerode . The current building was built in 1765 by the manor at that time and handed over to the community. In 1797 lightning struck the church tower, but without causing any major damage. Almost 40 years later, however, it had to be closed by the church commission, the roof was in increasingly poor condition, the timbers were rotten and the tower had sunk. It was not repaired until 1840, so that the house could be rededicated on the Sunday after Michaelmas that year . The renovation work included, among other things, that a head was attached to the tower, which was covered with new slate, in which coins and a certificate had been placed. Furthermore, 4 columns inside the church support the tower. Another fundamental renovation was carried out in 2015-16. In particular, the roof was re-covered and the interior ceiling renewed. In a second construction phase, the masonry was repaired and the church was given an exterior plaster - similar to the original - in a sand-colored tone without additional paint.

The Catholic chapel in the former sugar factory was consecrated in 1958. Your community is called Maria Frieden and belongs to the diocese of Hildesheim . In 1997 a new chapel was opened, called the Holy Cross.
