Eubeberg

The Eubeberg , also called Eube , formerly “Iffen” or “Eiben”, is about 820  m above sea level. NHN high mountain in the low mountain range Rhön . It is located near Schwarzerden in the Hessian district of Fulda .

geography

location

The Eubeberg rises in the Hessian Rhön Nature Park and in the Rhön Biosphere Reserve . Its summit is located in the municipality of Poppenhausen about 700 m southeast of the Rodholz hamlet Schwarzerden (to Poppenhausen) and 2 km northeast of Maiersbach , 1.8 km west of Obernhausen and 1.5 km north of Schachen (all to Gersfeld ). The border between the municipality of Poppenhausen and the city of Gersfeld runs almost 200 m south of the summit.

The source of the Lütter is located northeast in the transition area to the Wasserkuppe . The Maiersbach rises southeast of the summit region . A little east past the mountain, the Fulda flows in its upper reaches .

Natural allocation

The Eubeberg belongs to the natural spatial main unit group Osthessisches Bergland (No. 35), in the main unit Hohe Rhön (354) and in the subunit Central Rhön ( Hochrhön ; 354.1) to the natural area Wasserkuppenrhön (354.10). Its landscape falls particularly to the south-west into the natural area of Milseburger Kuppenrhön ( Westliche Kuppenrhön ; 353.21) belonging to the subunit Kuppenrhön ( Vorder- und Kuppenrhön ; 353.2) .

Mountain height

The Eubeberg is about 820  m high. In topographical maps , the height indication 814.4  m can be found almost 200 m northwest of its summit . From the summit region the landscape leads east to a nameless knoll of about 850  m and from there north to the Wasserkuppe ( 950  m ).

Protected areas

On the Eubeberg, which is forested with the exception of its summit region and northern flank, parts of the Eube nature reserve ( CDDA no. 318379; designated 1997; 1.3517  km² in size), the Hessian Rhön landscape conservation area (CDDA no. 378477; 1967; 410.3172 km²), the fauna-flora-habitat- area Hochrhön (FFH-Nr. 5525-351; 48.0962 km²) and the bird sanctuary Hessische Rhön (VSG-Nr. 5425-401; 360.8013 km²).

history

The border between Poppenhausen and Gersfeld running over the Eubeberg is partly identical to the old border between the bishopric of Fulda and the rule of those von Ebersberg called von Weyhers . The petrification of the border from 1780 can still be found in part. Up here lies the late medieval Hemmhauck desert , of which traces can still be discovered.

Traffic and walking

West past the Eubeberg, coming from Abtsroda in the north to and through Schwarzerden and Schachen, the axis of the district roads  160 and 41, on which part of the Hochrhönring runs. In Schachen, the K 95 branches off as a spur road from the K 41, which leads to the south-eastern flank of the mountain. The K 41 hits on the eastern edge of Gersfeld to the east over after the Eubeberg Oberhausen leading national road 284 , runs on a part of the Hochrhön ring. From this road branches off north-east of Obernhausen in a north-west direction - also within this ring - the state road  3068, which leads north-west over the eastern highlands of the Wasserkuppe to Abtsroda and then as L 3307 through Sieblos and Tränkhof to Poppenhausen to the south-west . From there, the ring runs through Rodholz as part of the K 41 and meets the road axis mentioned at the beginning.

For example, starting on these roads, the Eubeberg can be hiked on paths and paths. A common section of the European long-distance hiking trails E3 and E6 leads across the ridge to the east of the mountain, which extends south from the Wasserkuppe to Gersfeld . There used to be a ski lift on the north slope .
