Eugen Emil Richard von Albedyll (born July 28, 1842 in Arnswalde , † March 11, 1916 in Blankenburg (Harz) ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

family

Eugen came from the noble family von Albedyll and was the fourth of eight children of the district judge Georg Friedrich von Albedyll (1799–1864) and his wife Ottilie, née Fischer. In 1875 he married Anna von Langenn (born February 27, 1853 in Plagow; † January 15, 1917 in Blankenburg). The two had no offspring.

Military career

Albedyll joined the Grenadier Regiment "King Friedrich Wilhelm IV." (1st Pomeranian) No. 2 of the Prussian Army in Stettin on November 4, 1860 as a three-year-old volunteer . There he was promoted to second lieutenant on November 13, 1863 with a patent from October 6, 1863 . This was followed in 1866 as a battalion adjutant and in 1870/71 Albedyll became Premier Lieutenant and Adjutant of the 16th Infantry Brigade in Torgau . For his achievements during the war against France , Albedyll received the Iron Cross 2nd class.

In 1873 a command to the General Staff under General Field Marshal von Moltke followed . 1874 in the Guard Fusilier Regiment in Berlin . In 1875 he became a captain and company commander . In 1880 he became adjutant of the 1st Guard Division , then adjutant in the staff of the Guard Corps , major in the Guard Grenadier Regiment "Queen Elisabeth" No. 3 and in 1882 battalion commander of the main cadet institution in Groß-Lichterfelde . In 1891 he became a lieutenant colonel in the staff of the Grand Ducal Mecklenburg Fusilier Regiment "Kaiser Wilhelm" No. 90 in Rostock . From January 27, 1893 to October 17, 1895, Albedyll commanded the infantry regiment “Grand Duke Friedrich Franz II of Mecklenburg-Schwerin” (4th Brandenburg) No. 24 in Neuruppin as a colonel . Subsequently placed à la suite of the regiment, he became the commandant of Glatz and rose to command of the 23rd Infantry Brigade in Neisse with his promotion to major general on June 16, 1896 . On May 22, 1899, Albedyll was put up for disposition and was given the character of Lieutenant General .

Civil life

He took his retirement home in Blankenburg, where he pursued his diverse interests, mainly intellectual and artistic. Albedyll was the center of a literary society that united the open-minded citizens. He died there on March 11, 1916 and was buried in the new cemetery below the so-called Devil's Wall. Until 1964, his grave was adorned by a huge boulder, almost two meters high, in which his name and that of his later deceased wife were inscribed in artfully forged iron letters. In 1964 the grave was closed and re-occupied by the local cemetery administration of the GDR , the inscription on the boulder was removed.
