The European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions ( EUR Found , English Euro pean Found ation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions ) is an agency of the European Union with the aim of improving the living and working conditions in Europe. It was founded by the European Council on May 26, 1975 with Regulation (EEC) 1365/75 and is based in Dublin .
The foundation focuses on researching and gathering information and making its results public. The foundation maintains specialized organizations for the purpose of monitoring working conditions in Europe. These are
- the European Industrial Relations Observatory (EIRO) for industry
- the European Working Conditions Observatory (EWCO) for monitoring working conditions
- the European Monitoring Center on Change (EMCC) European Monitoring Center for Change
- the European Restructuring Monitor (ERM) monitoring the reconstruction
task
The tasks of the European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions are as follows: to provide information, advice and expertise to key figures in the field of European social policy on the basis of comparative information, research and analysis. The European Foundation for the Improvement of Living and Working Conditions was one of the first established agencies in the EU . The foundation also maintains partnerships with 29 national institutions.
Authorities
Eurofound is run by a director, a vice director and a board of directors. The board meets twice a year to decide on the budget and one- and four-year plans. After the director Raymond-Pierre Bodin's death in 2003, Vice-Director Willy Buschak was promoted to director. In December 2005 Jorma Karppinnen was appointed as the new director, who was replaced in December 2010 by Juan Menéndez-Valdés .
The Foundation's budget (€ 18.5 million in 2005) comes from the European Commission .
