The Evangelical Church Dirmingen is the parish church of the Evangelical Church Community in Dirmingen , a district of the Saarland community Eppelborn in the parish Saar-Ost of the Evangelical Church in the Rhineland . In the list of monuments of the Saarland, the church is a single monument listed.

history

The origins of the church building go back to the Middle Ages . In the second half of the 13th century, the four lower floors of the church tower were built . The tower was part of a church that was smaller than the current one.

Due to dilapidation , the medieval church was torn down except for the tower in 1746 and replaced by a new building, the design of which Friedrich Joachim Stengel ( Saarbrücken ) was responsible for. The foundation stone was laid on April 24, 1746 and the new building was consecrated on November 6 of the same year. As part of the construction work, the tower was raised by a fifth floor and crowned with a French dome with an open lantern and onion attachment.

In the 19th century the interior of the church was rebuilt. In the years 1936 to 1937, the church was expanded according to plans by the architect Rudolf Krüger , by adding a choir with sacristy to the nave in the east , thus increasing the size of the chancel .

In 1966 and 1996 restoration work was carried out. In 2008 the stairs leading to the chancel gallery were rebuilt .

Architecture and equipment

The hall church with an east-facing rectangular nave and hipped roof is equipped with a seven-armed and a three-part chandelier , as well as an ambo and a stand for the Easter candle , which master locksmith Willi Bund (Dirmingen) made and donated to the church.

In the chancel to the right of the altar on the wall opposite the pulpit , the grave slab of Pastor Johann Gerhard Heintz (1692–1709) is set into the church wall. It is a 195 × 78 cm sandstone slab with a picture of a pastor with a chalice to the right of his head.

Of the two stained glass windows in the choir, the north window shows the symbols of Christ XP and Alpha and Omega as well as the evangelist symbols of man, lion , bull and eagle . In the south window you can see two crossing keys , as well as the lamb with the flag and a burning heart.

The benches and the floor date from 1897.
