The Évian Thonon Gaillard Football Club (in France often also called Évian TG FC ) is a French football club that originally comes from Gaillard south of Lake Geneva in the Haute-Savoie department and now claims to cover the entire region around Évian and Thonon-les-Bains to represent.

The club colors are red and white. The club's president was Patrick Trotignon until Christmas 2013, who will be represented by Joël Lopez until a new election. The first team was trained by Bernard Casoni until the end of 2011 , who was replaced by Pablo Correa on January 2, 2012 despite his successes (two promotions in a row) . After descending into the Ligue 2 dissolved safet sušić Pascal Dupraz from on the bench; Dupraz was a coach from 1991 to 2009 and again from 2012 to 2015, in between he was sports director at ETG. (As of August 2015)

history

It was founded in 1924 as FC Gaillard . After a merger in 2003 it was called Football Croix de Savoie 74 , in German "Kreuz von Savoyen" (the historical coat of arms of the region). In 2007 there was a merger with Olympique Thonon Chablais and the name was changed to Olympique Croix de Savoie 74 . In December 2008, former French internationals Zinédine Zidane , Bixente Lizarazu and Alain Boghossian jointly acquired shares in the club's corporation.

The club has had its current name since July 2009. Franck Riboud , chairman of the board of Danone , became honorary president and renamed the club Évian Thonon Gaillard FC , although Évian has nothing to do with the town of the same name in the region , but with the Danone- Group owned brand Évian has to do. After promotion to Ligue 1 in 2011, Fabrice Ehret from 1. FC Cologne and the former French international Sidney Govou from Panathinaikos Athens were brought in. In its first season, FC Evian Thonon Gaillard finished ninth in the table ahead of Olympique Marseille .

Shortly afterwards, Stephan Andersen , Christian Poulsen and the players on loan at the time Daniel Wass and Thomas Kahlenberg took part in four players with the Danish national team in the 2012 European Championship finals in Poland and the Ukraine ; the club from the Savoy thus had the highest contingent of players who play for a nation other than that of the club.

Venue

Since the Stade Municipal Louis Simon (2000 places) in Gaillard did not meet the requirements for the National (D3) , the league team played from 2005 to 2010 in the Stade Joseph-Moynat in Thonon-les-Bains, which has a capacity of 5000 places. After promotion to Ligue 2 , the club applied to play its home games abroad for a maximum of three years from the 2010/11 season, namely at the Stade de la Praille in Lancy in the Swiss canton of Geneva ; this would have been a first in French professional football. All French and Swiss authorities involved had already signaled their consent, with the condition that the club build a league-compatible stadium in France by 2013. However, this was contradicted by UEFA ; therefore, the professional team is now playing in Annecy , which is much further away . Another attempt by the club at the European Football Association in early 2013 was rejected by the latter on the grounds that the desired exception violated the tried and tested principle that national competitions are limited to the respective national territory.

League affiliation

The club has had professional status since 2010 and played first class after two consecutive promotions from 2011 to 2015. After two consecutive relegations, the club played in the third French league in the 2016/17 season .

successes

Women's soccer

Since mid-2014, a women's soccer department has been part of the club for the first time . This came about through the transfer of the women from the neighboring FCF Ambilly and has been called FC ETG Ambilly ever since. The first team will also play in the third division in the 2015/16 season .
