Fürstenhagen is a district of the municipality of Lutter and part of the Uder administrative community . It is the youngest village in the Eichsfeld district in Thuringia and, with its 60 inhabitants, one of the smallest. Fürstenhagen is a Roman Catholic place.

location

Fürstenhagen is about 6 kilometers southwest of Heilbad Heiligenstadt on the Obereichsfelder Höhe at 496 m above sea level (highest point at the former train station). In the northwest, the place borders on the Lengenberg , the highest point in the district is southwest on the Eichstruther head (503 m). The only road connection is the district road 111 to Lutter.

history

Before 1800

Fürstenhagen existed from 1297 to 1374 as a place "Indago" a few hundred meters away from today's location, further northeast towards Kalteneber at the so-called Hahnkirche . Since the land on which the village was located belonged to local farmers, the founding of a village was viewed with reluctance. As a result, the only well was poisoned, whereupon the settlement was abandoned.

Fürstenhagen was probably built near the old town at the beginning of the 16th century. The new Fürstenhagen was first mentioned in a document in 1539 when Archbishop Albrecht demanded that the town be pledged to the Lords of Hanstein . The place and the adjacent large forest of the Lengenberg probably formed the border between the ten-free Thuringia (with Kalteneber, Dieterode, (Ober) lutter) and the ten-compulsory places that are counted as Saxony (Lenterode, Neuseesen, Wenigen-Luttera). The name of the new Fürstenhagen probably originated from the former possessions of the Archbishop of Mainz and the Landgraves of Thuringia and Hesse as well as the Counts of Henneberg (the princes). It is not known exactly when this place was abandoned. At the beginning of the 17th century, residents of Lutter, Kalteneber and Krombach paid interest to the Rusteberg Office for the fields they used on Fürstenhagen.

1828 to 1945

The second founding of the place can, as one of the few in Eichsfeld , be precisely numbered.

On August 20, 1828, the re-establishment of Fürstenhagen by Christoph Koch began. He was expelled from the state of Hesse and settled on a large piece of land east of the Lengenberg, on which Fürstenhagen is today. The forester's house was built in 1839/45. Straw weaving began in the middle of the 19th century. This was followed by the construction of the Catholic Church " Holy Three Kings " in 1896 and the school in 1897. In October 1832 the cemetery was consecrated.

In 1907 an elevated tank was built for the Fürstenhagen Colony . In 1914 the Heiligenstadt – Schwebda railway line and the Fürstenhagen train station were opened. In December 1924 Fürstenhagen received the first electric light. Production of tobacco products began in the 1920s. In 1928 the 100th anniversary was celebrated with a mass, speeches and parades.

On White Sunday , April 8, 1945 (it was just communion in Fürstenhagen), the place was bombarded by American artillery from Wachsedt . Thereupon Fürstenhagen was probably taken from the Panzer Divisions of the XX. Corps of the 3rd US Army or the 1st US Army occupied. Dozens of tanks were positioned behind the church. Two German soldiers died around the place during these days. One was found hanged in Lengenberg and one at the base bridge. Both were buried in the Fürstenhagen cemetery. On April 9, 1945, the northern Thuringian region was occupied. Since the railway line was destroyed in the war and was not rebuilt, Fürstenhagen lost its rail connection.

1949 to 1990

After the division of Germany at the end of the 1940s, the 5 km restricted border area extended to shortly before the former Fürstenhagen train station. This building later became a kind of event hall for forestry. During the GDR era , many agricultural areas around the town were forcibly incorporated into the LPG .

From 1972 to 1976 the first observatory in Eichsfeld was built. In 1978 the 150th anniversary of the town was celebrated. The morgue was built in 1979.

Since 1991

Fürstenhagen chapel

In 1992/93 the administration of the Eichsfeld-Hainich-Werratal nature park moved into the former station building, and in 1996 an information center was opened in the Fürstenhagen railway water tower .

In 1996 the 100th parish fair was celebrated. The Erfurt bishop Joachim Wanke inaugurated the renovated church. Fürstenhagen belonged to the parish of Kalteneber until 2007 .

An old bakery still exists today, made of sandstone and occasionally still used in a traditional way.

In 2003, the 175th local anniversary took place in Fürstenhagen. Like in 1996 a marquee stood on a meadow. On Fridays there was a choir and homeland evening , on Saturday the children's dance followed and in the evening dance with a band. On Sunday there was a morning pint after Holy Mass and a procession.

On May 1st, 2005 the new opening of the nature park center "Alter Wasserturm" took place by the nature park director Johannes Hager and Thuringia's agriculture minister Volker Sklenar . In addition to traditional baking in the old bakery, there was a balloon ride, a raffle, various stalls and guided hikes.

On October 23, 2006 the inauguration of the new parking lot at the Wendeschleife took place.

On 1 January 2008 changed Fürstenhagen from the parish Kalteneber to parish Uder . Other information: Settlements, people, nature in the Luttertal and the surrounding area: Chronicle Lutter - Fürstenhagen H. Adler, A. Hey, 1998

The Heiligenstadt – Schwebda railway line

The former train station and today's nature park center with the water tower

In 1911 the construction of a railway line from Heiligenstadt to Schwebda began . Since the route, later affectionately known as the “Bimmelbähnchens”, was too steep (from 200 m to 492 m above sea level), it was necessary to build a train station with the Fürstenhagen railway water tower . The purpose of this tower was to supply the locomotive with sufficient water. The station was one of the smallest switchbacks in Europe. The train came in from Kalteneber , refueled and drove on to Dieterode . Due to the incline, three rack sections had to be created, for which a special locomotive was necessary. In 1947 the rails were dismantled by the Soviet occupying forces as a reparation payment . The administration of the Eichsfeld-Hainich-Werratal Nature Park has been based in the former station building since 1992 . The old water tower was converted into an information center in 1996 and redesigned in 2004/05.

Village events

Serenading

A very popular tradition is serenading silver and gold wedding anniversaries , bachelor parties and round birthdays from the age of 70. Almost all the residents of the village are on their feet and go (usually in the evening) together to the house of the jubilee. Then songs (e.g. the Eichsfeldlied , Hohe Tannen or the Fürstenhagen hymn, composed in 2003 ) are sung and the family of the jubilee (s) distribute beer and sandwiches. This event usually lasts late into the night.

Corpus Christi

On Corpus Christi , the “Holy of Holies”, ie the conversion of the gifts (water and hosts ) to the body of Christ , is celebrated. The body of Christ (the changed host) in the monstrance is first worshiped at Holy Mass. This is followed by a tour with the “holy of holies” through the village, with the pastor walking under the “sky” carried by men of the village. Altars are set up at three stations in the village and there is a stop for worship. After the congregation has walked through the village, the holy of holies is exposed in the church. In bad weather there is a mass in the church.

All Saints Day

At All Saints of the saints and the dead is thought traditionally. A devotion is held in the cemetery and each individual grave is then blessed with holy water. The Holy Mass on All Saints 'Day usually takes place the evening before in the church, since October 31 ( Reformation Day ) is a public holiday in Thuringia, unlike All Saints' Day.

Sports festival

The sports festival is the event of the year. The teams from the neighboring communities and other Eichsfeld locations compete for football. In addition to musical interludes by various musicians, there is also a goal wall shooting for a real Eichsfelder Feldgieker .

Kirmes - Patronatsfest

On the weekend of the fair, the consecration of the church “Holy Three Kings” is commemorated. The difference to the patronage festival is that on this day the patron saint of the Church, the Three Wise Men (January 6th) is commemorated.

Mulled wine festival - log cabin festival

The mulled wine festival traditionally takes place on the 2nd weekend in Advent in the log cabin in Lengenberg. The inhabitants of the village hike together to the hut in the forest in front of Fürstenhagen and then sit together for coffee and mulled wine.

Nature Park Festival

The nature park festival with many attractions takes place every two years around the nature park center.
