The FFH area Lago d'Ampola is a NATURA 2000 protected area in the Italian province of Trento . The 24-hectare reserve includes Lake Ampola and parts of the surrounding lakeshore area in the Ampolatal and is located in the municipality of Ledro . It is designated as a legally protected biotope by resolution of the regional government of the Autonomous Province of Trento No. 9735 of August 16, 1990 and has been part of the NATURA 2000 network since 1995. On the east side of the lake there is a visitor center that is open in the summer months .

The FFH area Lago d'Ampola is an exceptionally vegetation-rich lake landscape, which makes a significant contribution to biodiversity and thus to the different habitat types of the protected area. The protected area is of particular importance as a breeding site, resting place and winter quarters for protected or highly endangered bird species. The presence of invertebrates testifies to the good quality of the water.

Hazards and protective measures

Problems in the protected area arise from uncontrolled vegetation. Particularly in the fens, the spread of reeds poses a risk that the associated changes in the habitat will displace the native species. Accordingly, the overgrown reeds must be removed regularly. The spread of the invasive neophyte glandular balsam, which has so far only appeared to a limited extent, must also be kept under control. The deviation of the visitors from the designated sightseeing paths should be prevented by appropriate restrictions. An uncontrolled withdrawal of water by the Palvico , which flows out of the lake and is used to generate electricity downstream, must also be stopped in advance.
