history

1927–1945: From its inception to the Second World War

The forerunner of FK Donji Srem was FK Borac or Borac Pećinci , whose date of foundation has not yet been conclusively clarified, in contrast to the arrival of football in Opština Pećinci . In 1927 it was the forest engineer Jovan Djurdjević, a former high school student from Ruma and a forestry student at the University of Belgrade , who brought the first football to the agricultural village of Pećinci , which had 1,500 inhabitants at the time . Therefore, this year is also regarded as the founding date of Borac Pećinci and today's FK Donji Srem.

Before long, football became the most popular sport in Pećinci and the surrounding area. For Borac Pećinci , it was common for a long time that numerous brothers from several families played in the club, and his descendants were members of the club from the beginning. The Naić family, who were members of the club in the third generation or whose sons played for the club, became particularly well known in the region. During the Second World War , the Kingdom of Yugoslavia was invaded, occupied and divided up by the Axis powers in 1941 . During this period, numerous club members died in the wars of liberation or were abducted and murdered in concentration camps.

1945 – today: re-establishment and first class

After the war or during the times of Socialist Yugoslavia , Borac Pećinci mostly only played friendly games with teams from neighboring cities, but also against those from Belgrade and Novi Sad , or took part in regional leagues. With the development of the village on Autoput A3 a good 40 kilometers north of the capital Belgrade into the district capital of Okrug Srem , the history of the club also went parallel. Due to various incidents, Borac Pećinci was dissolved, however, so football at club level disappeared for a long time in the Pećinci area. It was not revived until 1963, when FK Donji Srem was founded by former board members, players and supporters of Borac Pećinci in order to carry on its football tradition.

From there on, the club spent most of its existence in the amateur field. In 2009, however, the promotion to the Srpska Liga Vojvodina was achieved, one of the four sections of the third division, and one season later to the Prva Liga . The 2011/12 season ended sensationally in second place, which qualified for promotion to the SuperLiga . So the FK Donji Srem achieved three successive promotions. Since then you could keep yourself in the first division.

Stadion

The Kutpoint Arena (formerly Sportski centar Suvača ), also known as Suvača , is the club's “pure” football stadium with 3,500 seats . It is named after an English - Cypriot software company .
