occupation

The Rechlin family is the name of the two-part film adaptation of the books The Moving Years of the Rechlins and The Quiet Years of the Rechlins by Jochen Hauser .

After the books were successfully published, GDR television decided to make a film. The shooting took place at the original locations in East Berlin and West Berlin , which was an exceptional situation during the division of Germany and made shooting in the other country difficult or impossible.

The two-part series was first broadcast on April 16 and April 18, 1982.

action

The married couple Hannes and Ingelore Rechlin live in the East Berlin district of Mitte on Hackescher Markt together with their youngest son Rene and the husband's father in an apartment in an old building. The film begins in 1962, shortly after the building of the Berlin Wall separated the family. The daughter Beate lives with her husband and son in Ruhleben in West Berlin and cannot visit the family again until 1963 with the permit agreement . Ingelore, who was the center up until then, sees the danger that her family will fall apart.

The film follows the life of the family at work and leisure over more than a decade in various storylines. Everyday life through the professions of the married couple (tram driver and cook) is presented as well as problems caused by childlessness, prison sentences and membership in the SED .

criticism

"The (television) film, carried by good actors, reflects a lot of everyday life in the GDR and also touches on critical issues."
