Faulbach is a formerly independent municipality belonging to the Hadamar-Niederhadamar-Faulbach district in the small town of Hadamar in the Limburg-Weilburg district in Central Hesse . With around 140 inhabitants, it is the smallest settlement area in Hadamar. Faulbach forms a common district with Hadamar and Niederhadamar .

Geographical location

Faulbach is a street village and is located about 180 m above sea level at the foot of the 242 m high Galgenberg . The Faulbach, which flows into the Elbbach at Hadamar, runs through the village .

history

chapel

Faulbach is clearly shaped as a street village. To the east of the town, the road coming from Hadamar met Uhlenstraße, a medieval long-distance trade route. The current course of the main street corresponds to the original route of Hadamarer Straße only in the eastern part.

From the church records it can be seen that Faulbach originally belonged to the parish Dietkirchen , but in 1575 the inhabitants were listed as belonging to the parish Hadamar. A chapel has survived in the village as early as the 15th century . The patron saints were always the masters of the great Faulbacher Hof . In 1620 the place came to Nassau-Hadamar and was an independent municipality until 1939. On April 1, 1939, Faulbach and Niederhadamar are incorporated into Hadamar.

The Faulbacher Hof in the south-east of the village is the old core of the settlement and is a listed building which, as ensemble protection, also extends over the adjacent properties. The courtyard is originally a medieval complex that was owned by several noble families, including the von Dungern family of officials and politicians from Nassau. The associated estate was dissolved at the beginning of the 20th century.

Today the courtyard has the shape of a three-sided system. The oldest parts are the manor house, now a plastered half-timbered house , and the ground floor of the barn adjoining it to the north. The main building has a half-hip roof with a working bell tower that has been changed to the north. Around 1870 this barn was increased, a new farm wing was built on the south side of the complex and the complex was closed off with a wall facing the street. The buildings of this phase consist of limestone quarries and relief arches made of bricks. The wall emerges through its roof-topped posts and the two entrances with old iron gates.

The small plastered building was built in 1868. He wears stair friezes, pilaster strips and cornice as jewelry. The small equestrian tower is octagonal. The entrance was subsequently modernized.

Wayside shrine

The wayside shrine under a mighty linden tree dates back to 1813. The quarry stone structure has a low base and a pointed, pyramidal wooden roof. An oil painting is fitted into the chamber.

Hofstrasse 1

The half-timbered house next to the manor stands out with its high base with exposed rubble stones and its very pointed, dominant roof, which is underlined by the slate on the roof side. The field pattern is very simple, almost square. Windows and doors have been preserved in a largely unmodernized condition.

Hofstrasse 3

The elongated house flanks the manor to the north. It stands out for its light ornamentation with nested S-struts in the framework of the upper floor and an unusually high basement plinth. The slightly curved canopy above the entrance sets an accent.

Economy and Infrastructure

Faulbach used to be an agricultural village. Today there are three full-time businesses. Faulbach also has a restaurant with an integrated organic farm shop . These are located in an old barn that has been converted and restored.
