Ferdinand Ludwig Christian von Eschwege (born September 27, 1790 in Eschwege , † March 26, 1857 in Jestädt ) was an electoral Hessian landlord, lieutenant general and member of the electoral state assembly .

family

Ferdinand Ludwig Christian von Eschwege came from the house of Reichensachsen , the first line of the old Hessian noble family of the von Eschwege . His father Johann Friedrich Ludwig von Eschwege (born June 25, 1743 in Reichensachsen; † April 22, 1795 in Löningen ) became a lieutenant colonel in Hesse-Kassel and married Charlotte Antoinette Friederike Wilhelmine von Bardeleben in 1787 (born July 11, 1766 on the Kattenbruch estate; † August 17, 1847 in Jestädt).

Ferdinand was one of the couple's two children. His older brother Carl von Eschwege became the Hessian chamberlain and was temporarily one of the chief rulers of the Knighthood of Althessia . He was also a member of the Hessian Estates Assembly. His son Karl von Eschwege was a member of the Hessian Estates Assembly, the Kassel Communal Parliament and the Provincial Parliament of the Hesse-Nassau Province .

Professional background

In 1821 Eschwege was major and commander of the Garde du Corps , and in 1830 he was promoted to lieutenant colonel . When unrest repeatedly broke out in Kassel as a result of the July Revolution of 1830 , Eschwege commanded the Garde du Corps against angry Kassel citizens on December 7, 1831, during the so-called first Garde du Corps night. A year later he was promoted to colonel .

In 1833 he became a member of the Electoral Hessian Estates Assembly, the 3rd Landtag, for the Landgrave of Hesse-Philippsthal . From 1839 to 1841, the 7th Landtag, and from 1848 to 1849, the 11th Landtag, he was a member of the Hessian Estates Assembly as a member of the knighthood of the Werra River. In 1841 Eschwege was promoted to major general and in 1855 to lieutenant general.

He died on March 26, 1857, at the age of 66, in Jestädt, which had been owned by the von Eschwege family since 1794.

Marriage and offspring

Ferdinand von Eschwege married Luise Wilhelmine Ernestine Friederike Henriette Caroline Sophie Johanna Treusch von Buttlar-Brandenfels (born July 9, 1795 in Markershausen ; † March 16, 1869 in Kassel), daughter of the royal Prussian chamberlain Adam Christian , on October 18, 1816 in Saxony Friedrich Ernst Treusch von Buttlar-Brandenfels.

The couple had five daughters and four sons. Hermann Karl Ludwig Julius Hans (born August 7, 1817 in Reichensachsen, † July 13, 1882 in Kassel), the eldest son, became colonel and head stable master of the Hesse region . His younger brother Ernst August Julius Alexander (born September 9, 1818 in Reichensachsen; † July 19, 1857 Jestädt) became a forest master of Hesse .
