Finsternis is the second studio album from the German music project E Nomine . It was released on January 21, 2002 on the Polydor and Zeitgeist labels as standard and limited editions, including DVD .
production
The album was produced by E-Nomine members Christian Weller and Fritz Graner and licensee David Brunner . All three also acted as executive producers . It was recorded in the Ramses studio in Berlin .
Involved speakers
The lyrics of the songs on the album are spoken by ten well-known German voice actors. These are Christian Brückner (voice of Robert De Niro and Gary Oldman ), Joachim Kerzel (voice of Jack Nicholson and Dustin Hoffman ), Martin Keßler (voice of Nicolas Cage and Vin Diesel ), Frank Glaubrecht (voice of Al Pacino , Pierce Brosnan and Kevin Costner ), Manfred Lehmann (voice of Bruce Willis ), Helmut Krauss (voice of Samuel L. Jackson ), Rolf Schult (voice of Anthony Hopkins ), Michael Chevalier (voice of Oliver Reed and Charles Bronson ), Eckart Dux (voice of Anthony Perkins and Michael Caine ) and Joachim Tennstedt (voice of John Malkovich ).
Cover design
The album cover shows a dark stormy sky on which a pair of eyes can be seen. A lightning bolt rises between the eyes and hits a tree. In the upper part of the picture are the yellow-green lettering E Nomine and the title Finsternis in white. The limited edition is only adorned with the lettering E Nomine in yellow-green and dark and limited edition in white. The background is completely black.

On February 4, 2002, Finsternis entered the German album charts at number 3 and in the following weeks occupied positions 7 and 6. In total, the album stayed in the top 100 for 18 weeks. The record was also able to make its way into Austria and Switzerland place on the charts. The album was ranked 38th in the German annual charts in 2002.
The song Mitternacht was released as the first single at the end of October 2001 . It reached position 13 in the German charts and stayed in the top 100 for eleven weeks. The second single Das Tier in mir (Wolfen) was released in February 2002, reached number 29 in the German charts and stayed in the top 100 for nine weeks .
Sales number and award
In 2008, Finsternis was awarded a gold record for more than 150,000 copies sold in Germany .

- The online magazine laut.de gave the album the lowest rating out of a possible five points and described it as boring:
“ E Nomine is so terrifyingly sobering because" Finsternis "is such a terrifyingly boring CD. A pinch of Gregorian chant, a spoonful of Carl Orff and half a pack of juicy electronic beats were mixed together lovelessly. With the addition of plenty of greasy lyrics and well-known voice actors, the stew was quickly boiled up. "
