Fontaine-Guérin is a town and commune Déléguée in the French commune of Les Bois d'Anjou with 991 inhabitants (as of January 1 2017) in the department of Maine-et-Loire in the region of Pays de la Loire .

With effect from January 1, 2016, the municipalities of Brion , Fontaine-Guérin and Saint-Georges-du-Bois were merged into a Commune nouvelle called Les Bois d'Anjou. The municipality of Fontaine-Guérin belonged to the Arrondissement of Angers and the canton of Beaufort-en-Vallée .

Fontaine-Guérin is located in the northeast of the Maine-et-Loire department in an agricultural area that is also called Baugeois after the small town of Baugé . The Couasnon flows past to the west of the village . 650 hectares of municipal area are covered with forest. The place is part of the Loire-Anjou-Touraine Regional Nature Park .

  • The nave of the Romanesque church of St. Martin de Vertou dates from the 11th, the choir from the 12th century. Major changes were made during a restoration around 1875. The church has one of the twisted spiers typical of the area, as can be found in some other places in the Baugeois (e.g. Le Vieil-Baugé , Pontigné ). However, it is the only one of these churches in which the tower is turned to the right, in all others the tower is turned to the left. The rich furnishings include two paintings from the 15th century from the German painting school and an altarpiece from the 16th century, which the church received from the Musée des Beaux Arts in Angers .
