Francisco Cerro Chaves (born October 18, 1957 in Malpartida de Cáceres , Spain ) is a Spanish clergyman and Roman Catholic Archbishop of Toledo and Primate of Spain .
Life
Francisco Cerro Chaves studied Catholic theology at the seminary in Toledo and received on July 12, 1981, the sacrament of Holy Orders .
Cerro Chaves then worked as a parish vicar in the parish of San Nicolás in Toledo before he became youth minister in 1982 . From 1986 he also worked in the parish of Santa Teresa in Toledo and as director of the diocesan retreat house. Francisco Cerro Chaves became director of the Sagrado Corazón de Jesús training center in Valladolid and chaplain of the Gran Promesa National Shrine in 1989 , which he remained until 2007. He was incardinated in the clergy of the Archdiocese of Valladolid in 1992 . Cerro Chaves obtained a licentiate from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome in parallel to his pastoral work and received his doctorate in theology in the field of spirituality in 1997 .
Pope Benedict XVI appointed him Bishop of Coria-Cáceres on June 21, 2007 . The Apostolic Nuncio in Spain and Andorra , Archbishop Manuel Monteiro de Castro , consecrated him on September 2 of the same year as bishop; Co- consecrators were Santiago García Aracil , Archbishop of Mérida-Badajoz , and Braulio Rodríguez Plaza , Archbishop of Valladolid.
On December 27, 2019, Pope Francis appointed him Archbishop of Toledo and thus Roman Catholic Primate of Spain. The inauguration took place on February 29, 2020.
