Frank De Kova

Frank De Kova (born March 17, 1910 in New York City , New York , † October 15, 1981 in Sepulveda , California ) was an American actor .

Life

De Kova worked as a teacher at a school before starting his acting career. He first worked in various theaters and appeared in Shakespeare productions , among others , before making his Broadway debut in 1947 . After a smaller role in 1947, he was given a larger role in Detective Story in 1949 . In 1951 he made his feature film debut in the crime film The Mob , the following year he was seen in Elia Kazan's Viva Zapata . In the following years he worked in small supporting roles in the monumental films Das Gewand , The Ten Commandments and The Greatest Story of All Time . He had major film roles in the western The Beast of the Wild alongside Charlton Heston and Jack Palance , in the fantasy film Atlantis, the lost continent and alongside Charles Bronson in the thriller Cold Breath .

His looks made him the ideal cast for Mexicans and Indians, so he appeared in numerous American western series of the 1950s and 1960s, including the Smoking Guns , A Thousand Miles of Dust , Maverick and High Chaparral . He gained fame with the American television audience through his portrayal of the Indian chief Wild Eagle in the western sitcom F Troop , which he played in 63 episodes between 1965 and 1967.

De Kova died of heart failure in 1981 .
