Franz Cede

Franz Cede (* 1945 in Feldkirch , Vorarlberg ) is an Austrian political and legal scholar and diplomat .

biography

Franz Cede studied law at the University of Innsbruck , and after completing his doctorate remained as a university assistant at the Institute for Politics and Public Law. He also graduated from the School of Advanced International Studies  (SAIS) in Bologna and Washington with a Master of Arts in International Relations.

In 1972 he joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs . First at the international law office, later he switched to foreign service, at the embassies in Paris , Rabat / Morocco , and the consulates in Kinshasa / Congo and Los Angeles . In 1999 he became Austrian ambassador to the Russian Federation , in 2003 to the Kingdom of Belgium , with simultaneous accreditation to NATO .

Franz Cede retired in mid-2007. Since then he has worked as a Senior Advisor at the Austria Institute for European and Security Policy  (AIES) and held a professorship for diplomacy at the Andrássy University in Budapest .

He is married and has two children. His daughter Theresa Cede survived the terrorist attacks on November 13, 2015 in Paris as a hostage in the Bataclan Theater.

Publications

Franz Cede is an expert on relations between the EU and Russia, and is the author of several books and a large number of publications on the subjects of general international law , security policy and European law .
