Ernst von Klüx

Franz Friedrich Karl Ernst von Klüx (born July 16, 1776 in Halle ; † July 9, 1858 in Neusalz an der Oder ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

His parents were the Prussian Major General Wolfgang Heinrich Ernst von Klüx (1728–1805) and his wife Luise Ferdinande, born von Zehmen called von Braun (1738–1789). His brother Joseph Friedrich Karl Leopold also became a Prussian general.

Military career

On December 1, 1789, Klux joined the Fusilier Battalion No. 1 as a private corporal . On May 19, 1792, he became a portepeef ensign. During the First Coalition War he fought in the cannonade near Valmy , the skirmishes near Islettes, Aldenhoven, Eschweiler, Tongern, Tirlemont, Neerwind, Wörth, Neustadt, Neukirchen, Rheinböllen, Waldalgesheim. He also fought in the battle of Kaiserslautern , where he was wounded. During that time he became second lieutenant on February 7, 1793 and for a successful attack on the castle near Neukirchen he received the order Pour le Mérite on March 17, 1793 .

On February 26, 1796 he was transferred to the Kurmärkische fusilier brigade , but on January 24, 1803 he was transferred to the infantry regiment "von Strachwitz" . There he became lieutenant prime minister on February 2, 1805 . During the Fourth Coalition War he took part in the Battle of Jena and the Defense of Danzig.

On March 19, 1808, he came as a Staff Captain in the Infantry Regiment. 38 . On February 17, 1809 he was transferred to the Silesian Rifle Battalion. There he became a captain and company commander on April 13, 1811 . On August 9, 1812 he was promoted to major , on January 17, 1813 he came to the Upper Silesian Brigade as commander, but on March 27, 1813 he was appointed commander of the East Prussian Jäger Battalion . On December 8, 1813, he was promoted to lieutenant colonel. In the Wars of Liberation Klüx fought in the battles near Großgörschen , where he acquired the Iron Cross 2nd class, in the Battle of Bautzen - here he was wounded - then at the Katzbach , where he received the Iron Cross 1st class. He also fought near Leipzig , Laon and Paris as well as in the battles near Goldberg, Naumburg, Reichenbach, Bischofswerda, Gedau, transition near Wartenburg , Witschena, Saarlouis, St. Dizier , Vitry la Chaussee Dornau, Chateau-Thierry , Montmirail , Sezanne and Claye . On October 14, 1814, he was appointed commander of the "Kaiser Franz" grenadier regiment . On October 3, 1815, he was promoted to colonel.

On July 11, 1817, he was awarded the Austrian Leopold Order. On February 6, 1818 he was brigade commander in the III. Battalion of the Army Corps in France. On May 9, 1818, he was transferred to the 12th Infantry Brigade as commander. For his success he received a royal gift of 1000 thalers on March 18, 1819 and the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class, on September 9, 1819 . On March 30, 1821, he was promoted to major general and on July 26, 1825, the Prussian service cross. In addition, on September 9, 1828, he received the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class with oak leaves. Because of his age, he was entrusted with the management of the Neisse fortress on July 28, 1832 and also acted as commander of the 12th division from September 4, 1832 .

On September 9, 1835, Klüx received the star for the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd Class with Oak Leaves, and on September 30, 1835, the Russian Order of St. Anne, 1st Class. On March 30, 1836, he was also promoted to lieutenant general. But on August 12, 1837 he was put up for disposal with a pension of 3430 thalers . He had received a very unfavorable assessment, so that King Friedrich Wilhelm III. Requests for supplements. Klüx then submitted his farewell. But he couldn't get by with his money and received 500 thalers from the king several times.

Nevertheless, he received other medals, on July 18, 1844 the crown to the Pour le Mérite, on August 5, 1844 he was made Honorary Senior of the Iron Cross 1st class; in addition he received 300 thalers as a gift on August 30, 1844. On January 18, 1845, he received the star for the Military Merit Order. He died in 1858.

Klüx married on January 20, 1802 in Vaels near Aachen Charlotte von Clermont (* November 2, 1773 - June 29, 1865), daughter of Johann Arnold von Clermont . The couple had several children:
