Franz Hugo Jakob Krüger (born July 14, 1829 in Königsberg , † October 25, 1896 in Bozen ) was a Prussian lieutenant general .

Life

Franz was the son of the Prussian major Jakob Adolf Krüger (1792-1857) and his wife Leopoldine Friederike, née von Kortzfleisch (1794-1857). His grandfather Jakob Joachim Krüger was the pastor of Ragnit .

Military career

Krüger attended the Löbenicht Higher Citizens School and the Old Town High School in Königsberg and joined the Prussian Army's 1st Infantry Regiment on June 10, 1847 as a musketeer . In mid-September 1849 he was promoted to secondary lieutenant and was from the beginning of October 1854 to mid-October 1857 as adjutant of III. Battalion in the 1st Landwehr Regiment in Tilsit . Krüger then served as adjutant of the 2nd battalion, rose to prime lieutenant at the end of March 1859 and was active as a regimental adjutant from August 21, 1859. This was followed by a command as adjutant of the 2nd Infantry Brigade from July 12, 1860 to November 11, 1861 . With the promotion to captain , Kruger became company commander . In the same capacity, he was transferred to Wesel on June 25, 1864 to the 8th Westphalian Infantry Regiment No. 57 . During the war against Austria in 1866, Krüger led his 7th company in the battles of Münchengrätz and Königgrätz . Praised for his behavior after the peace treaty , he was aggregated as a major in the regiment on March 16, 1869 and assigned to serve at the directorate of the X Army Corps in Hanover . In mid-February 1870 he was transferred to the Holstein Infantry Regiment No. 85 and with the beginning of the war against France , Krüger became the commander of the replacement battalion. During the siege of Metz he was given command of the fusilier battalion, which Krüger led at the beginning of December 1870 in the battle of Orléans and was seriously wounded.

Awarded the Iron Cross II. Class, Krüger advanced to lieutenant colonel after the war and was promoted to colonel on March 22, 1877, commander of the 4th Baden Infantry Regiment "Prinz Wilhelm" No. 112 in Mulhouse . As major general , he was then from August 3, 1883 in command of the 31st Infantry Brigade in Trier . In this position he was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle II. Class with Oak Leaves in September 1884 . Under awarding of the Crown II. After his departure, Krüger received the character of Lieutenant General on December 4, 1895 . He died unmarried in Bolzano a year later.
