The Freeburg Township is one of 22 townships in St. Clair County in the west of the US -amerikanischen state of Illinois . In 2010 the Freeburg Township had 5,109 inhabitants.

The township is located in the eastern part of the Greater St. Louis metropolitan region, called Metro-East , around the city of St. Louis in neighboring Missouri .

The Freeburg Township is located in the eastern suburbs of St. Louis. The Mississippi , which forms the border with the state of Missouri, is around 35 km to the west.

The Freeburg Township is located at 38 ° 26'34 "north latitude and 89 ° 52'22" west longitude and extends over 57.94 km², which is spread over 56.81 km² of land and 1.13 km² of water.

The Freeburg Township is located in the center of St. Clair County and borders north to the Shiloh Valley Township , on the northeast by the Mascoutah Township , on the east by the Engelmann Township , on the southeast by the Fayetteville Township , on the south by New Athens Township , in Southwest to the Prairie Du Long Township , to the west to Smithton Township and to the northwest to Belleville .

Illinois State Routes 13 and 15 converge in Freeburg Township . All other roads are county roads or further subordinate partly unpaved roads.

A Canadian National Railway runs through the southwest of the township and runs from St. Louis to the southeast.

The St. Louis Downtown Airport is around 35 km northwest, the larger Lambert-Saint Louis International Airport is around 60 km northwest of the Freeburg Township.

According to the 2010 census , there were 5,109 people in 2017 households in the Freeburg Townschip. The population density was 89.9 inhabitants per square kilometer. Statistically, there were 2.47 people each in the 2017 households.
