The township is located in the eastern part of the Greater St. Louis metropolitan region, called Metro-East , around the city of St. Louis in neighboring Missouri .

The St. Clair Township is located in the eastern suburbs of St. Louis, around 20 km east of the Mississippi , which forms the border with the state of Missouri. It covers an area of about 36.37 km².
The township is located in the northern center of the St. Clair County around the city Belleville , bordered to the north by the Caseyville Township , on the northeast by the O'Fallon Township , on the east by the Shiloh Valley Township , on the south by the Smithton Township , in To the southwest to Millstadt Township and to the west to Stookey Township .
