The Canteen Township is one of 22 townships in St. Clair County in the west of the US -amerikanischen state of Illinois . In 2010 the Canteen Township had 10,263 inhabitants.
The township is located in the eastern part of the Greater St. Louis metropolitan region, called Metro-East , around the city of St. Louis in neighboring Missouri .

The Canteen Township is located in the eastern suburbs of St. Louis. The Mississippi , which forms the border with the state of Missouri, is about 2 km west of the township.
The Canteen Township is 38 ° 38'01 "north latitude and 90 ° 04'42" west longitude and extends over 28 km².
To the northwest of Canteen Township are the remains of Cahokia , the largest pre-Columbian city north of Mexico .
The Canteen Township is north of St. Clair County and borders Madison County to the north . Within St. Clair County, Canteen Township is bordered by Caseyville Township in the east, Belleville in the southeast , East St. Louis Township in the south and Stites Township in the west .

In the center of the township, Interstate 255 , which serves as the eastern St. Louis bypass, intersects Interstate 64 , which runs from St. Louis to Louisville , Kentucky . Interstates 55 and 70 run through the northwest of the township . The Illinois State Route 157 leads through the southeast of the township , into which the Illinois State Route 161 joins at its northern end point. Illinois State Route 111 runs through the center of Canteen Township in a north-south direction . In the extreme northwest is the southern terminus of Illinois State Route 123 . All other roads are county roads or further subordinate partially unpaved roads.
Along the southwestern border of the Canteen Township runs a line of the metroLink called light rail of the metropolitan area St. Louis.
In the Canteen Township, several railway lines from different companies (e.g. Union Pacific Railroad , BNSF Railway , Amtrak and others) come together and bundle here on the way to St. Louis.
The St. Louis Downtown Airport is around 15 km southwest, the larger Lambert-Saint Louis International Airport is around 30 km west-northwest of the Canteen Township.
