Friedrich August von Othegraven (born May 10, 1802 in Wesel ; † June 4, 1878 in Bonn ) was a Prussian lieutenant general and commander of Breslau .

Life

Friedrich August was the son of the Prussian Lieutenant General Karl Thomas von Othegraven (1769-1844) and his wife Jeanette, born von Tschirschky (1772-1817). His brother Albert (1798–1866) became a Prussian major general.

Military career

Othegraven visited the Berlin cadet house and on October 2, 1819 was transferred to the 25th Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army as a portepeefähnrich . He was promoted to secondary lieutenant in mid-October 1820 and completed the general war school for further training in 1823/26 . From 1829 to 1834 Othegraven was assigned to the topographic office . On January 14, 1835 he was promoted to Prime Lieutenant and at the end of March 1836 he was commanded to serve as an adjutant of the 16th Infantry Brigade . Released from this command, he was transferred to the adjutantage on April 7, 1842 with his promotion to captain . With the appointment as company commander in the 30th Infantry Regiment Othegraven returned to the troop service on March 22, 1845. As a major he was from December 30, 1847 to March 18, 1850 in command of the III. Battalions in the 28th Landwehr Regiment in Siegburg . Then he was battalion commander in the 20th Infantry Regiment and on March 22, 1853 promoted to lieutenant colonel. On June 10, 1856, Othegraven was appointed commander of the 25th Infantry Regiment and in mid-October 1856 was promoted to colonel . In position à la suite of his regiment, he was transferred to Neisse on May 19, 1859 as commander of the 24th Infantry Brigade and promoted to major general on May 31, 1859. On the occasion of the festival in January 1863, he was awarded the star for the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class with oak leaves. Othegraven asked for his departure , but the king refused on May 9, 1863. Instead, he was appointed commander of Breslau on May 19, 1863, conferring the character of lieutenant general. In this capacity he received the patent for his rank on June 18, 1865 , before he was put up for disposal on April 2, 1866 with a pension . He died unmarried on June 4, 1878 in Bonn.
