Albert von Othegraven

Franz Albert Friedrich Alexander von Othegraven (born July 30, 1798 in Wesel , † April 15, 1866 in Koblenz ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

origin

Albert was the son of the Prussian Lieutenant General Karl Thomas von Othegraven (1769-1844) and his wife Jeanette Margarethe, née von Tschirschky (1772-1817). The later Prussian Lieutenant General Friedrich August von Othegraven (1802-1878) was his younger brother.

Military career

Othegraven visited the Berlin Cadet House and at the end of April 1815 was transferred to the Kaiser Franz Grenadier Regiment of the Prussian Army as a Second Lieutenant . For further training he completed the general war school , advanced to prime lieutenant and from May 1824 was in command of the topographic office for two years . After a year of command to the Great General Staff , Othegraven rose to become captain and company commander . Shortly thereafter, on May 23, 1834, he was transferred to the General Staff. From there he came to Königsberg in April 1835 in the General Staff of the 1st Army Corps . With his commanding general von Natzmer Othegraven took part in the autumn of 1836 as an observer in the exercises of the Russian army near Warsaw and Kovno . From the end of March 1838 to the beginning of April 1842, he was employed in the General Staff of the VIII Army Corps . He was then promoted to major in the 29th Infantry Regiment and in May of the following year was appointed commander of the 2nd Battalion. From November 2, 1844 to January 18, 1850 he led the 2nd Battalion in the 17th Landwehr Regiment in Düsseldorf and then took over command of the 2nd Battalion in the 3rd Westphalian Infantry Regiment No. 16 . On December 2, 1851 Othegraven advanced to colonel and commander of the 25th Infantry Regiment , before taking over the 6th Infantry Brigade stationed in Stettin on June 10, 1856 . In this position on October 15, 1856 promoted to major general, Othegraven was awarded the Star of the Red Eagle . II Class with oak leaves on August 17, 1858 in approval of his leave request with the statutory board for disposition made.

family

Othegraven married Auguste von Kessel (1800–1872) in Potsdam on July 16, 1847 . She was the daughter of the Prussian Lieutenant General Gustav von Kessel and his wife Angelika, née Schock (1778-1857). The marriage remained childless.
