Friedrich Eichiner

Friedrich Eichiner (born April 9, 1955 in Eichstätt ) is a former German manager . From October 1, 2007 to December 31, 2016, he was a member of the Board of Management of BMW AG . From December 2nd, 2008 until his retirement he was responsible for the finance department.

Life

Friedrich Eichiner was born in Eichstätt in 1955 and studied business administration at the University of Regensburg from 1976–1978 . He then studied business administration at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich between 1978 and 1986 . In 1986 he did his doctorate at the Ludwig Maximilian University with a thesis on the distribution of n products to m production sites as part of a composite production .

He joined BMW AG in 1987. Between 1987 and 1999 he had various management and project management tasks in the areas of logistics and production . 1990–2002 Eichiner was head of sales development and control. From 2002 to 2007 he was the head of corporate planning. From 2007–2008 he was a member of the Board of Management of BMW AG in the Group and Brand Development department. From 2008 to 2016 he was a member of the Board of Management of BMW AG for the Finance department. In addition, he managed BMW’s China business and was on the BMW Board of Management responsible for the BMW Brilliance Automotive joint venture .

Eichiner helped develop many of BMW's future strategies. The design for the “ BMW i ” project came from Eichiner. The usual age limit for members of the Board of Management of BMW AG is 60 years. In 2014, however, his contract was extended pro hac vice to 2017. Eichiner ended his career on December 31, 2016 at the age of 61. His successor on January 1, 2017 was Nicolas Peter.

Eichiner is a member of the Board of Trustees of the BMW Herbert Quandt Foundation . He is seen by financial analysts as one of the best Chief Financial Officers in Germany.

Friedrich Eichiner bought the three-story building in which the Schwabing pub Podium is located and plans to demolish it in order to build a new apartment building.

Awards

  • January 2015: The brand article magazine gave him second place among the best CFOs behind Hans Dieter Pötsch from VW.
  • January 2015: In a survey of business journalists, he was named the second most popular DAX finance boss, after VW CFO Hans Dieter Pötsch.
  • March 2014: The specialist magazine Institutional Investor named him the best CFO alongside the CFOs of Allianz and BASF.
