Friedrich Haas (politician, 1896)

Friedrich Haas (born July 13, 1896 in Untereggingen ; † May 8, 1988 in Munich ) was a German lawyer and politician ( CDU ).

Life

After studying law at the universities in Freiburg and Munich and obtaining his doctorate in 1922, he worked as a judge at the Reich Economic Court in Berlin from 1925 . From 1928 to 1945 he was a senior administrative officer for the city of Berlin.

After the end of the war, he worked as head of the main office for war damage and occupation costs and as deputy or provisional head of the finance department at the Magistrate of Greater Berlin under Mayor Arthur Werner . In 1946 he was temporarily city councilor for legal affairs under Lord Mayor Otto Ostrowski , then city treasurer. In 1948 he became city councilor for finances under Lord Mayor Ernst Reuter and in 1949 at the same time representative of Berlin in the Federal Council (until 1958). From 1951 to 1958 he worked as Senator for Finance under the Governing Mayor Reuter and in 1953, after the takeover of Berlin's new Governing Mayor Walther Schreiber ( CDU ), as Senator for Federal Affairs. Even after Schreiber changed mayor to SPD politician Otto Suhr on January 11, 1955 and after Suhr's death on August 30, 1957, Haas remained Senator for Finance under Willy Brandt . On July 2, 1958, he resigned from the office of Finance Senator.

From 1958 to 1961 he was President of the Higher Administrative Court in Berlin, then a member of the Board of Management of August Thyssen Bank AG in Düsseldorf.

Honors

He had been an honorary doctoral engineer at the Technical University of Berlin since 1953 and was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit with a star and shoulder ribbon in 1961.
