Fritz Baier

Fritz Baier (born June 2, 1923 in Chmeleschen , Karlsbad district , Czechoslovakia ; † March 1, 2012 in Mosbach ) was a German CDU politician . He was a member of the German Bundestag from 1956 to 1976 and was Lord Mayor of Mosbach from 1974 to 1985.

Life

Baier, who was of Roman Catholic faith, attended the commercial academy in Teplitz-Schönau from 1938 to 1942 after completing elementary school . In 1941 Fritz Baier joined the NSDAP at the age of 17 ( membership number 8,635,931). From 1942 to 1945 he served in the Air Force ; he was used in Norway and Finland and was taken prisoner by the Soviets . After being expelled from Czechoslovakia , he was able to gain a professional foothold in North Baden. Baier had been married since 1947 and had seven children.

After the Second World War he was a member of the CDU. In 1951 he was funded by the United States Department of State for a four-month study tour to the United States to study minority issues. He had been a member of the CDU state executive committee in Baden-Württemberg since 1952 . Baier was a member of the German Bundestag from June 26, 1956, when he replaced his party friend Eugen Leibfried , until 1976. Since 1957 he represented the constituency of Sinsheim in parliament.

In 1949 Baier was also one of the founders of the Sudeten German Ackermann congregation in the Archdiocese of Freiburg and was its diocesan chairman until 1979; together with Father Dr. Paulus Sladek and Pastor Magnani, he founded the expellees' pilgrimage to Walldürn and, with Wolfgang Schwarz, the Catholic Housing Association / Catholic Settlement Association. He was also involved in the Sudeten German Landsmannschaft and the Catholic youth. From 1966 to 1991 he was federal chairman of the Catholic working group for family recreation.

In 1969 he became chairman of the stewards committee of the Bundestag for the control of the intelligence services of the Federation ( BND , BFV , MAD ) and also a member of the Trust Board , in 1974, became a member of the said trustees Committee and chairman Trust Board.

From 1974 to 1985, Baier was the successor to Werner Tarun , who was no longer running for election for health reasons, as Lord Mayor of Mosbach . In the early days of his administration, there were above all events that go back to the long work of his predecessor Tarun, such as the incorporation of Neckarelz in 1975 or the elevation of Mosbach to a major district town in 1976.

In 1993 he became an honorary citizen of the city of Mosbach.
