Fritz Vogelgsang
Fritz Vogelgsang (born March 1, 1930 in Stuttgart , † October 22, 2009 in Chiva de Morella , Spain ) was a German translator , essayist and editor .
Life
Fritz Vogelgsang stayed in Spain in 1952 and 1953 to study . From 1964 to 1974 he was literary editor for the Stuttgarter Zeitung . From 1974 to 1980 he worked as a lecturer at Cotta and Klett-Cotta Verlag . From 1980 Vogelgsang worked as a freelance translator and learned the Catalan language as an autodidact . He translated u. a. literary works by Nobel Prize winners Miguel Ángel Asturias , Juan Ramón Jiménez , Pablo Neruda and Octavio Paz . Other authors he has translated into German are Salvador Espriu , Ramón del Valle-Inclán , Rafael Alberti and Joanot Martorell . Vogelgsang also received great recognition as the editor of Antonio Machado's work . "His services to Spanish literature in German-speaking countries are immeasurably great," wrote Andreas Dorschel in 2007. Vogelgsang has received numerous awards.
Fritz Vogelgsang last lived in the village of Chiva de Morella, eight kilometers from Morella , and in Markgröningen , in the Unterriexingen district.
