Brazilian games at the 1966 World Cup
For the defending champion, the World Cup was extremely disappointing. The team was outdated and essentially still made up of the world champions from 1958 and 1962 . Pelé was far from his form of days gone by and, like in 1962, was injured during the tournament. This time, however, there was no equivalent replacement, as players like Garrincha had far passed their zenith.
Brazil played in group 3:
- Brazil 2-0 Bulgaria - Goals: 1-0 Pelé (15th min.), 2-0 Garrincha (63rd min.)
- Brazil 1-3 Hungary - goals: 0-1 Bene (2nd min.), 1: 1 Tostão (14th min.), 1: 2 Farkas (64th min.), 1: 3 Mészöly (73rd min .) . per foul penalty)
- Brazil 1-3 Portugal - goals: 0-1 Simões (15th min.), 0-2 Eusébio (27th min.), 1: 2 Rildo (70th min.), 1: 3 Eusébio (85th min.) .)
After losing to Portugal , Brazil were eliminated in the preliminary round.
