Football in Croatia 1992/93

The 1992/93 season in Croatian football was the second since the breakup from the Yugoslav Football Association and the re-establishment of the Croatian Football Association .

For the first Croatian league (Croatian Prva Hrvatska Nogometna Liga , short 1. HNL ) 16 clubs were approved, the second league (Croatian Druga Hrvatska Nogometna Liga , short 2. HNL ) started in two seasons with 16 teams each.

First League

Since the last-placed teams of the 1991/92 season were spared relegation due to the Croatian War, all twelve first division clubs of the previous season were allowed to compete again. In addition to the two regular promoters, the league was increased by two more clubs in order to come to a reasonable number of game days.

The champions were Croatia Zagreb and started in the UEFA Champions League in 1993/94 . No Croatian club has been approved for the UEFA Cup. There were no relegated teams, the league played with 18 clubs in the following season. Scorer was Goran Vlaović with 23 goals.

Second division

In the second division, the four seasons of the preseason were merged into two seasons and filled with clubs from the regional leagues.

The rise in the first division succeeded Dubrava Zagreb and Primorac Stobreč.

Cup competition

32 teams were qualified for the cup competition. Hajduk Split won the cup in two finals against Croatia Zagreb and qualified for the European Cup Winners' Cup 1993/94 .

Supercup

Cup winner Hajduk Split won the Superkup in 1993 in two finals against champions Croatia Zagreb. Since both matches ended in a draw (4: 4 on August 1 in Zagreb and 0: 0 on August 7 in Split ), the away goals rule came into effect.

European Cups

Due to the lack of starting authorization and the Croatian War , there were no Croatian clubs at the start.

National team

The Croatian national team was not approved for qualifying for the 1994 World Cup and therefore only played five friendly matches, three of which were in July 1992 in three different cities in Australia against Australia's national team , none of which could be won. The other two games were played in Zagreb against Mexico and Ukraine , both of which were won. The realized Davor Suker total of three goals, and sat down with it in the ranking of the top scorer of the Croatian national team in the first place.

On June 17, 1993, the Croatian Football Association became a member of UEFA .

Remarks

Dinamo Zagreb began this season under the name HASK Zagreb Građanski and called in the winter break into Croatia Zagreb .
