Fuchū ( Japanese 府中 市 , - shi ) is a city in Hiroshima Prefecture in Japan .
geography
Fuchū is east of Hiroshima and west of Fukuyama .
history
In ancient times, after the Chinese-inspired Taika reforms, this was the administrative seat ( Fuchū ) of the Bingo province . (At that time, the capital of Aki Province was in the other city of Fuchū in Hiroshima today.)
In the Edo period, Fuchū belonged to the principality (- han ) Fukuyama . In the Meiji Restoration in 1871, it was converted into a prefecture (-ken) and then part of Fukatsu Prefecture (from 1872 after merging with Kurashiki Prefecture: Oda Prefecture). In 1875 Fuchū belonged to Okayama Prefecture, and from 1876 to Hiroshima.
During the Prussian-inspired modernization of municipal regulations in 1889, the "Dorfgemeinde Markt Fuchū" and the "Dorf Fuchūichi" ( 府中 市 村 , respectively ) arose here in the (- gun ) Ashida district (later after merging with the Honji district : Ashina district ) in the Hiroshima prefecture . Fuchūichi- mura ) and six other village communities ( 出口村,岩谷村,広谷村,国府村,栗生村,下川辺村 ). From the former, the [district] town of Fuchū (Fuchū- chō ) emerged in 1896 . This merged in two steps in 1925 and 1954 with the other six municipalities. During the second merger, today's [independent] city of Fuchū (Fuchū-shi) was created on March 31, 1954 . 1956, 1975 and 2004 were incorporated from the Ashina and Kōnu districts .
