The German Natural Bodybuilding & Fitness Federation e. V. ( GNBF for short ) was founded on March 1st, 2003 in Hamburg and promotes doping-free bodybuilding . It is the only German association to cooperate with the international umbrella organizations Drug Free Athletes Coalition (DFAC), International Natural Bodybuilding Association (INBA), International Natural Bodybuilding Fitness Federation (INBF) and Union International de Bodybuilding Naturel (UIBBN).

aims

The association has set itself the task of promoting and disseminating "Natural Bodybuilding" in Germany. He is limited to classic factors in bodybuilding such as training, nutrition, recovery, genetics and a positive attitude to the matter and rejects the use of doping substances completely. The focus should be on developing a healthy lifestyle as well as improving performance and physical appearance. The image of bodybuilding in Germany should also be improved.

Anti-doping measures

Since the club is committed to a fair comparison in sporting competitions , since the beginning of the competition in 2004, doping controls in the form of urine tests have been carried out on the class winners and some randomly selected athletes . In addition, up to 2013 every competitive athlete had to undergo a polygraph test before taking part in the competition . This was carried out by recognized polygraph experts from the USA . In the year mentioned, blood and hair analyzes were also carried out for the first time by the GNBF . All samples are evaluated by a laboratory accredited by the World Anti-Doping Agency . In addition, the fat-free mass index (FFMI) has also been used since 2014 . In addition to the competition, so-called “out-of-season tests” have also been carried out since 2011.

Competition regulations

Participation requirements

Eligible are athletes who have German citizenship and who are also members of the GNBF. Foreign athletes have the opportunity to start in the international class. Only amateurs who have not used doping substances for at least seven years are admitted to the GNBF championships . In detail, there are some exemptions that allow, for example, a doctor's certificate to participate in competitions despite the use of certain indication-related medications (such as insulin for diabetics ). The intake of anabolic or androgenic substances such as testosterone , nandrolone and stanozolol is generally prohibited even in the case of a medical indication .

Competition process

Participation in the competition consists of the pre-selection and the final, each of which is subdivided into further evaluation rounds. The preselection consists of the symmetry and muscularity round, in which all starters are on the stage together, take certain compulsory poses and face a direct comparison with the competitors. In addition, the jury may request comparisons between individual athletes. Evaluation criteria are proportions and overall appearance, muscle mass in proportion to body size and bone structure, definition (muscle division) and vascularity (veins). The special feature of the finals is that the best 5 athletes from the preliminary round present a self-made freestyle, which is subject to the following evaluation criteria: choice of music for the freestyle, choreography of the freestyle and presentation (charisma, enthusiasm). In addition, all mandatory items are called up once more and individual comparisons are requested if necessary. When the jury has made its decision, it comes to "pose down", in which all finalists move freely on the stage and pose independently. Once all the class winners have been identified after this procedure, there is finally an overall winner's jump-off.
