Gábor Köves (born January 7, 1970 in Budapest ) is a former Hungarian tennis player .

Career

Köves, who specialized in doubles, was particularly successful on the second-rate Challenger Tour . He won four Challenger titles in his career. On the ATP Tour he was in the finals in Bologna in 1996 and in Bogotá in 1998 , but lost both. In Grand Slam tournaments , he never got past the second round.

He took part in three Summer Olympic Games : 1988 in Seoul , 1996 in Atlanta and 2000 in Sydney . In 1988 and 1996 he competed with László Markovits and in 2000 with Attila Sávolt in the doubles competition. In 1988 he and Markovits met in the opening round on the Mexicans Leonardo Lavalle and Agustín Moreno , which they were able to defeat. In the second round they were defeated by the later gold medalists Ken Flach and Robert Seguso from the United States . In 1996 they were eliminated in the first round against the South Africans Ellis and Wayne Ferreira . At the 2000 Games, he and Sávolt also did not get beyond the first round. They lost in three sets against the Italians Cristian Brandi and Massimo Bertolini .

Köves played a total of 16 matches for the Hungarian Davis Cup team between 1988 and 2001 . He was only used in doubles and was able to win 10 of his 16 games.
