Gajowice (German Giegowitz ) is an Upper Silesian village in the municipality of Wielowieś , Powiat Gliwicki in the Silesian Voivodeship in Poland . Gajowice has about 90 inhabitants.
history
Giegowitz was first mentioned in 1310.
From 1936 to 1945 the place was called Steinrück. In 1945 Steinrück came under Polish administration. In 1950 Gajowice came from the Silesian Voivodeship to the new Katowice Voivodeship . With the entry into force of the peace settlement of the Two-Plus-Four Treaty in 1991, the Polish administration of the place ended and the place became part of Poland. However, this had already been confirmed by the individual German states with the Görlitz Agreement and the Warsaw and Moscow Treaties . In 1999 Gajowice came to the new Silesian Voivodeship and the re-established Powiat Gliwicki .
coat of arms
Old seals from Giegowitz show a bird. It is either a crested lark or a lapwing .
