Galina Anatolyevna Pugachenkova
Galina Anatolevna Pugatschenkowa ( Russian Галина Анатольевна Пугаченкова ; born January 25 . Jul / 7. February 1915 . Greg in Werny ; † 18th February 2007 in Tashkent ) was a Soviet - Uzbek archaeologist , art historian and university lecturer .
Life
After graduating from school in 1930, Pugachenkova studied in Tashkent at the Central Asian Industrial Institute in the architecture department, graduating in 1937 as an architect . After the subsequent postgraduate in the Central Asian Industrial Institute at the Institute for Central Asian architectural history defended their 1941 Kandidat- dissertation for promotion to the candidate of architecture.
From 1942 to 1960 Pugachenkova was a lecturer at the Chair of Archeology in the Faculty of History of the Central Asian State University (SAGU) . She took part in the archaeological excavations in the areas of today's Uzbekistan , Turkmenistan and Afghanistan . From 1946 to 1961 she was the head of the VII Group of the South Turkmen Archaeological Expedition to study the architecture of the Parthian Empire , ancient Bactria and the cities of Chalchajan , Dalverzin-Tepe and Kampir-Tepe (30 km west of Termiz ).
In 1958 Pugachenkova became a senior researcher at the Tashkent Hamza Institute for Art History . In 1959 she was her doctoral dissertation for defense on the development of architecture Südturkmenistans in the times of slavery and feudalism to the doctor doctorate of art history. From 1959 to 1984 she was the chief and scientific director of the Uzbek art history expedition. She organized expeditions to Buxoro , Fargʻona , Samarqand and other cities and archaeological sites together with Lasar Israilewitsch Rempel , who was her constant co-author on the many publications . She used numismatics to classify the various sculpture styles . With her research results she developed theories on the origins of the Kushana art and the influences of Bactria and the Parthian Empire on the Gandhara culture.
In 1960 Pugachenkova became head of the Art and Architectural History Sector of the Hamza Institute for Art Studies. In 1962 she was appointed professor . In 1968 she became a Corresponding Member and in 1984 a full member of the Academy of Sciences of the Uzbek Soviet Socialist Republic . Her monograph on the art of Uzbekistan became an archeology textbook at universities in other Central Asian countries. Under her leadership, a group of specialists prepared the printing of volumes from the collection of architectural monuments of Uzbekistan.
Pugachenkova was elected a full member of the Uzbek Art Academy in 1993. She was a corresponding member of the German Archaeological Institute and the Istituto italiano per il Medio ed Estremo Oriente , honorary doctorate from the University of Strasbourg , honorary member of the International Academy of Architecture for the countries of the East and a member of many other scientific organizations.
Pugachenkova was married to the archaeologist Mikhail Evgenyevich Masson .
