The Gauangelbach , commonly known as Angelbach , is an approximately 13 km long right and northern tributary of the upper Leimbach in front of Dielheim in the Rhein-Neckar district in northwest Baden-Württemberg .

It is to be distinguished from the Waldangelbach , which runs a little further down the valley in Wiesloch from the other side of the Leimbach , which is also known as the Angelbach .

geography

course

The Gauangelbach rises on the southeast slope of the Königstuhl massif about 700 m west of Gaiberg on the edge of the clearing island around Gaiberg and Leimen- Lingental in the Gaiberger Waldgewann Ochsenpferch . It soon emerges from the forest, crosses the clearing island to the south, cuts the L 600 that runs through it and then follows the edge of the Gauangelloch forest area, Teich , and then turns through this forest to the southeast in the direction of the Gauangelloch.

As soon as it reaches the village on the other edge of the forest, it disappears in a canal and only flows further southwards from the Bettendorff moated castle Gauangelloch on the southern edge of the village. So he reaches the municipal boundary of Wiesloch and then the moated castle and village of Schatthausen , where he turns to the southwest and first from the left from the southeast the Gänsbach , then at the lower edge of the village from the right the Ochsenbach . A little later, the Maisbach flows , like the Ochsenbach and the upper reaches of the Gauangelbach itself, flowing from the edge of the forest on the southern foothills of the Königsstuhl approximately south-southeast.

The Gauangelbach reaches the following valley town of Baiertal in the middle of an arch to the west, below the town its valley runs in a south-westerly direction at Dielheimer Unterhof to that of the Leimbach . But only after almost a kilometer of remaining run in its right floodplain does the Gauangelbach flow into the Leimbach just under half a kilometer before the Dielheim settlement boundary from the right and east.

The Gauangelbach is 12.9 km long, drains 26.9 km² and has an average bed gradient of 15 ‰.

Catchment area

The 26.9 km² catchment area of the Gauangelbach is, in natural terms, with its upper, northern and northwestern parts in the lower area of the western Kleiner Odenwald of the Odenwald , with the larger remaining area in the sub-area of Angelbachgäu of the Kraichgau .

The with about 463  m above sea level. NHN's highest point is on its northern tip a little south of the street star Drei Eichen in the high forest south of the Königstuhl summit. Beyond the left-hand watershed, which runs south-south-eastwards for a long time, the streams from Weihwiesenbach up to Rohrbächel near Meckesheim all flow from the left to the lower Elsenz . After that, on the left side of the Gauangelbach in the southeast, the Krebsbach, which flows just a little upwards, competes with the Leimbach.

The brooks that arise from the mouth upwards on the west side of the catchment area drain for a long time, mostly in a short run to the Leimbach or its tributary Landgraben , most recently in the north also into the Heidelberg sewer system, which feeds its water to the Neckar .

Tributaries

The stream ran parallel to it for almost a kilometer in its right floodplain. The Gauangelbach is 12.9 km long and has a 26.9 km² catchment area.

geology

The catchment area of the Gauangelbach is largely covered with loess sediment from Quaternary deposits. In the southern Königstuhlwald above and at the source of the stream, on the other hand, the Upper Buntsandstein Röt Formation is directly and extensively . Further south, especially on the flanks of the three large stream valleys (Gauangelbach, Ochsenbach, Maisbach), there are small uncovered areas that open up the Mesozoic layers that are otherwise under the loess rock . Initially and up to Gauangelloch this is the Upper Buntsandstein on the Gauangelbach itself, then the Lower Muschelkalk at all three streams . The Sauberg hill on the northern edge of Baiertal already consists of Upper Muschelkalk . Near the mouth of the Leimbach there is even Keuper on its valley flank , which is even higher in the sequence of deposits of the Mesozoic strata. This means that these slopes more sharply towards the south than the river bed.

fauna

In the area of Schatthausen in the Gauangelbach in 2007 a crayfish was found, apparently a crayfish ( Orconectes limosus ).
