Stars in the Euro NCAP - Crash Test 4-star Crahstest.svg

The Emgrand EC7 is a passenger car from the Chinese brand Emgrand , which until 2014 was Geely's “premium” brand . Since the Emgrand brand was discontinued, the Geely model has been marketed as the Geely Emgrand EC7. The hatchback version is named EC7-RV .

safety

The vehicle, which goes back to the Geely FC-2 study , is designed according to Geely in such a way that it can achieve 5 stars in a EuroNCAP crash test. An actual crash test in autumn 2011 then delivered 4 stars - together with the MG 6 tested at the same time and with the same result, the best result of its time until it was surpassed by the Qoros 3 with a five-star result in September 2013 . For this reason and after a few sightings in the Amsterdam area, an introduction to Europe was initially expected.

Pricing

In China, the price of the car is well above the established domestic models. While the very successful BYD F3 in the simplest version is around 60,000 RMB , the EC7 costs from 80,000 RMB apart from an absolute economy version. A Chevrolet Cruze costs just under 110,000 RMB. The EC7 will be built together with the larger Emgrand EC8 in a new factory built especially for this brand in Ningbo . The model intended for South America is called the Geely Emgrand 718 and rolls off the assembly line at Nordex SA in Montevideo .

technology

There is a choice of two engines with 1.5 and 1.8 l displacement for the EC7. Later even larger engines with up to 142 kW and even turbo diesel are planned. A 5-speed manual transmission and (with the exception of the 1.5-liter engine) a 7-speed dual clutch transmission are available as transmissions.

The equipment corresponds to what one is used to in Europe in the middle price range. Airbags for the driver and front passenger are standard, while side airbags are part of the higher equipment packages. Since 2011 the car has also been available with a start-stop system as the "EC7 GSG" .

Electric version

At the beginning of 2015, Geely presented the EC7-EV, an electrically powered variant based on the sedan. The vehicle is powered by a 95 kW (129 PS) electric motor that accelerates the vehicle to 100 km / h in under ten seconds. It is the first Geely electric vehicle to go into series production. The manufacturer specifies the range in the combined cycle as 300 km. The designation "Geely Emgrand EC7-EV" carried this model variant from 2015 to 2017. In 2017 it was renamed "Geely Emgrand EV300". With the renaming to "Geely Emgrand EV300" changes have been made to this model variant. These changes included that the traction battery received a thermal management system and that it was also possible to recharge with 60 kW charging power on public fast-charging networks in China. The keyless opening of a single vehicle by its owner was also one of the changes.
