Gehau is a district of Waldkappel in the Werra-Meißner district in North Hesse .

Geographical location

Gehau is located about 6.8 km southwest of Waldkappel am Schemmerbach . About 3.5 km east-northeast is the Ziegenküppel with an observation tower, to the south the area rises to the Stölzinger Kuppe and to the west to the Stolzhäuser ridge . South of the village, roads  3226 ( Dankerode - Stölzingen - Gehau - Schemmern ) and 3249 ( Herlefeld - Stölzingen - Eltmannsee ) meet, and they share a short section there.

history

The first settlement is uncertain. It is known, however, that the village belonged to the Schemmern court in 1376 . In 1540 the former desert was repopulated. The church belongs to the parish of Schemmern. Gehau had 70 inhabitants in 1747, 124 in 1939 and 115 in the 21st century.

In the course of the regional reform in Hesse , Gehau came to the town of Waldkappel on December 31, 1971.
