Astrid Gehlhoff-Claes
Astrid Gehlhoff-Claes (born Astrid Claes , born January 6, 1928 in Leverkusen , † December 1, 2011 in Düsseldorf ) was a German writer .
Life
Astrid Gehlhoff-Claes was born as the daughter of the Mayor of Leverkusen , Heinrich Claes . She grew up in Leverkusen to the impeachment of her father by the Nazis on. In 1933 the family moved to Cologne . From 1947 Gehlhoff-Claes studied German language and literature and history at the University of Cologne and in London ; 1953 doctorate it with a thesis on Gottfried Benn in Cologne for the Doctor of Philosophy . She worked as a research assistant and began to publish her first literary works; she was supported by Gottfried Benn. She lived in Cologne-Lindenthal until the early 1970s , then on Kaiserstraße in the Düsseldorf district of Pempelfort and later in Düsseldorf-Oberkassel . She volunteered in social work with prisoners and founded the association “With words on the move - writers work with prisoners” in 1975, of which she was chairman until 1988.
Gehlhoff-Claes was married to the business journalist Joachim Gehlhoff, with whom she had the daughter Rachel. Her first daughter Undine Gruenter (1952–2002), who emerged as a writer , came from a relationship with the German scholar Rainer Gruenter .
Gehlhoff-Claes wrote narrative prose and poetry ; next to it translated , they are mainly from the English .
Gehlhoff-Claes was a member of the Association of German Writers and GEDOK . She received u. a. The following awards: 1962 the Gerhart Hauptmann Prize , 1964 the Literature Prize of the City of Cologne , 1965 the Prize of the Immermann Prize of the City of Düsseldorf , 1986 the Federal Cross of Merit 1st Class, 1989 the Order of Merit of the State of North Rhine-Westphalia ; In 1992 she was the guest of honor at Villa Massimo .
