Georg Gottfried Horner (born August 28, 1989 in Freistadt ) is an Austrian triathlete .

Career

Georg Horner began his athletic career in running, in 2012 he started at the Linz Marathon and in 2013 he competed in his first triathlon.

In April 2014 in Mürzzuschlag he became Austrian vice-champion in the Elite 1 age group and team state champion over the duathlon long distance (10 km run, 100 km bike ride and 20 km second run).
In June he started at the Ironman Austria in Klagenfurt for the first time on the Ironman distance (3.86 km swimming, 180.2 km cycling and 42.195 km running).

3rd place Austrian Championships Triathlon Middle Distance 2014

At the Austrian Championships on the triathlon middle distance, he came third in his age group in August 2014. In September 2014 he was able to qualify as the winner of his age group and best Austrian overall at Ironman Malaysia at his second Ironman start for a world championship starting place at Ironman Hawaii 2015, where he finished the race as the third fastest Austrian.

In July 2015 he won the bronze medal in the age group 25-29 at the ITU Long Distance World Championships in Sweden.

In the summer of 2016 he was able to win the age group 25-29 at both Ironman 70.3 Japan and Ironman Taiwan and was the best age group athlete overall in both races. At the race in Taiwan in October 2016, he was again able to secure a world championship starting place for the Ironman Hawaii 2017. In October 2017, the 28-year-old started for the second time at the Ironman Hawaii and finished 91st in the age group M25–29.

Georg Horner starts for the TriPower Freistadt association, he is trained by Bernhard Schimpl and he has been cared for in sports physiotherapy by the Salzburg Physio Center since 2015.
