Live and act

Born in Burglengenfeld in Upper Palatinate, Georg Joseph Götz graduated from (today's) Wilhelmsgymnasium in Munich in 1821 , then attended the University of Landshut and in 1824 entered the Episcopal seminary in Regensburg ; on May 1, 1825, he was ordained a priest in Regensburg.

After two years as a chaplain in Sallern and Eilsbrunn , he was appointed as a study teacher at the Latin school in Ingolstadt . Götz stayed in this office for five years and it was here that he wrote his first work, “Guide to Bavarian History” . In 1832 he became pastor of Etterzhausen , in 1834 of Gnadenberg (belonging to Berg near Neumarkt in the Upper Palatinate ). In the so-called Prussian mixed marriages dispute he appeared in journalism and defended the Catholic position.

His writings caught the attention of King Ludwig I of Bavaria, who appointed Georg Joseph Götz as cathedral capitular in Würzburg in 1840 . From 1843 to 1859 he was also cathedral pastor there, and in 1848/1849 he was one of the founders of the Pius societies in Franconia. In 1851 he was awarded the Knight's Cross First Class of the Order of Merit of St. Michael , on November 12, 1859 he was appointed Dean of the Würzburg Cathedral , and in 1865 official of the diocese. From 1856 to 1858 Götz was a member of the Bavarian state parliament for the constituency of Aschaffenburg . When the Bavarian Patriot Party was formed in 1869 , he was one of the well-known supporters of the new foundation. His last nationwide appearance was in November 1870, as a preacher at the Bavarian people's pilgrimage to the grave of St. Heinrich in Bamberg . Soon afterwards the priest became seriously ill and died of a heart condition on January 3, 1871. According to the death pictures, he lived and died in the Würzburg Palais Marmelstein , Domerschulgasse 2 (today episcopal ordinariate).

Georg Joseph Götz wrote several historical and a large number of religious books. Many of his sermons appeared in print.
